Just saw Obama on CNN again talking about how his father may not have been served in a restaurant |
|
years ago and it resonated with me once again, not because I am AA but because I am white and my parents biggest regret to this day is not walking out of a restaurant almost 50 years ago when they saw a young AA couple refused service. They have talked about this for nearly 50 years and it has obviously been something that affected them to this day. I spoke to them the day Obama was elected and they were thrilled yet this refusal to seat a young AA couple was what they remembered most on this day, it shaped how they chose to raise us as children. We were taught honesty, respect, tolerance, fairness, reasoning, this is what I remember and what they still adhere to. I am lucky to have had such good role models.

It took my breath away when he said it.
