Enough carrots, Obama. Time for sticks!!! |
|
Obama was right to offer a few carrots to the Republicans in the spirit of bipartisanship - it makes Obama look reasonable, and puts pressure on the Republicans to be reasonable.
They chose not to be reasonable, and started making frivolous demands. Now they look like extremist loons who take their marching orders from Rush Limbaugh.
It's time for the stick.
Obama does seem to be recognizing this - as he's refused to give them more tax cuts in his negotiations with Congressional Republics today.
Time to go on the bobblehead show circuit, tell them "We tried being reasonable with them, but they kept making unreasonable demands". Then, it's time to bring the steamroller out of the garage. Put a whole bunch of Democratic amendments into the stimulus, yoink a bunch of the tax cuts, and then force it through with 51% votes.
Time for the Republicans to learn. Play ball fairly with us, or you'll get sidelined.

2. President Obama is not a dictator. |
|
"It's not red states, or blue states, it's the UNITED states of America." ~ Sen. Barack Obama DNC Convention 2004
Besides, what assurances do we have the Dems in Congress will vote with his stimulus package?
What President Obama is doing is savvy political chess and checkmate is in sight.

8. The election was the big stick. The carrots Obama is offering |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 04:09 PM by stopbush
are of the baby carrot variety, at best.
He's letting them hang themselves, allowing them to label themselves as nothing more than obstructionists. Once they've dug their own graves, Obama will diplomatically say, "well I tried" - at which point he can go on his merry way.
The final nails are being driven into the Republican Party coffin, and Obama has the Rs doing the nailing.
Not bad work for under two weeks in office.
