Oakland records 100th and 101st homicides during the Thanksgiving holiday
The Thanksgiving holiday period was a time to relax and be thankful to those who have done you good. Right?

Apparently someone or sometwo in Oakland radically felt the opposite. On Friday, the city of Oakland recorded its 100th homicide. The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

Enoch Reed, 52, of Oakland was found lying on the sidewalk on the 1800 block of 96th Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. Friday suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at Highland Hospital in Oakland.

Then late Sunday:

Jermel Holloway, 28, of Oakland was shot on the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, said Officer Jeff Thomason, a police spokesman.

No suspects have been found for either crime. The Oakland Police Department is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest for the Friday murder.

3. Just to be safe you should stay down in San Jose.
Oakland can be a very scary place. Try spending a couple of hours on the mean streets of Montclair or even the gritty Lakeshore area. But by all means stay away from East Oakland and most of West Oakland, you can't perpetuate the scary press and stereotypes if you actually go those places.

Dang dawg. You know, our murder rate is actually decreasing compared to previous years. But hey, thanks for your concern.

4. I do live in San Jose.
In the city's east side, though, there's plenty of shady people and some homicides to go 'round. I think the crime rate would make the A's want to move to San Jose and the Raiders to return to Los Angeles.

5. Vallejo recorded 9 this year, 50% increase in one year.
We've got a lot of problems and the NY Times ran a piece highlighting it.
