hey DUer's! be a volunteer at the convenmtion! Talk to the establishment types and see if you can penetrate the fog! Granted, a LOT of the dem party faithful are wired into the progressive movement, but a significant number are not. Make yourself heard by being there.
From Art:
Many of you volunteered for us during the 2004 campaign, and we thank you for your hard work and dedication. Our volunteers really did make a difference, not only in California, but in many of the battleground states, where the strong presence of our activists was a testament to the level of commitment and experience of our grassroots campaign.
California Democrats have much to be proud of! We re-elected Senator Barbara Boxer (by a record-breaking 20 points), kept our majority in the Senate and Assembly, delivered California to Senator Kerry and built upon our strong organization for the 2006 statewide election and beyond.
Right now our Party and grassroots activists are hard at work making sure our message on issues like education and health care is heard above the roar of Arnold's special-interest cash register (the governor's falling ratings show we are on the right track!) And as Republicans continue with their "sky is falling" rhetoric on the critical issue of social security, Democrats must remain vigilant to ensure that the truth is heard above their phony cries of crisis.
The California Democratic Party needs your help as we continue to get our message out there!
The 2005 State Convention will be held April 15-17 (Friday-Sunday) at the Los Angeles Convention Center and we will need as many volunteers as possible.
We anticipate U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein and many of our California Congressional, State Senate and State Assembly representatives to attend. In addition, we have invited many of our national Democratic leaders to join us for the weekend.
Our dedicated volunteers are essential to the success of our conventions, and this year will be no exception. We will need over 600 volunteers to facilitate a productive and enjoyable convention for the approximately 3,500 delegates, guests and press in attendance.
Volunteers are needed in several areas - some assignments will require sitting, while others may involve standing or acting as a runner. (Please see the volunteer form for more information.) With the volume of volunteers that we need, we cannot guarantee placing you in an area of your first choice; however, we will make every effort to do so. Please let us know of any special needs and/or physical limitations you may have. There will be opportunities for volunteers to attend General Session, and hear some of our speakers.
If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the volunteer form at www.cadem.org/volunteer (by April 1, 2005 for best availability). If you have any questions, please call the volunteer coordinator at (916) 442-5707 or email at volunteer@cadem.org.
Please note: In order to participate, you must sign-up in advance to volunteer at the State Convention.
I look forward to seeing you at the Convention.
Sincerely,
SENATOR ART TORRES (Ret.)
Chairman, California Democratic Party
