Sacramento State Professor Conducts Public Opinion Surveys

"We were supportive because of the people, and we thought a lot about the need to support them and overthrow Saddam," said Doug O'Hare, who opposes the Iraq War.

But that was then. After 1,500 American casualties and the huge expense of the war, O'Hare no longer feels the American soldiers should be in Iraq.

"It's starting to be like a war we're not winning, and I'm really wondering why we're still losing lives," O'Hare said.

Many people in the Sacramento region share O'Hare's change of heart, according to California State University, Sacramento professor Amy Liu, who conducts public opinion surveys.

snip...
Liu's surveys show support for the war is eroding in the area. Two years ago, as the war began, 52 percent of people said the situation in Iraq was "worth going to war over." Last year, that number was about the same -- 50 percent. But this year, there was a big drop to 38 percent.
