My great-grandparents lived there. I know it's goofy to ask, but do you know the surname Streeter?

I didn't consciously recognize the name but I had a weird shivery feeling deep in my brainstem. Maybe. . .what was their trade?

9. I have no idea. It was my great grandparents who lived there, and they |
|

were retired by the time I was born. Their son, my grandfather, had been an army sergeant in WWII, then became a corrections officer. I don't know what prison, but he lived in Susanville, which I know is way north but I don't know how far north of Lockford.
Sigh. My mom is gone and I'm not close enough to my aunts to ask about the family history. There is so much I want to know about my mother's family.
It was worth the asking -- and dude... way interesting about that brainstem shiver. Cool.
:hi: thanks, Lemming.

25. I'm headed for the Susanville area on Christmas Day |
|
to visit with the BIL/SIL for a few days. I spent a lot of time up there when I worked for Corrections-HQ. Two lovely institutions, California Correctional Center (the old one) and High Desert State Prison (new in 1996 and lots of maximum security Aryan Brotherhood types) They're at the foot of two national Forests. It's a really beautiful area, especially if you're into high desert like me. And the air is clear.
Lockeford is on the river road south of Sacramento, on Highway 160, I think. I cruise thru it sometimes on my Sunday morning rides. Susanville is in Northeastern CA (they call it Northwestern NV). From Sacramento you go east to Reno then cut back northwest into CA about 85 miles. Or go north 135 miles to Red Bluff and east 110 miles to Susanville.

13. Are you related to the Streeter clan in Stanislaus county? |
|
If so, we may be very distant cousins. My grandfather had a first cousin named Mattie Streeter.

I don't know of any Matties. Great grandfather Lloyd, great uncle Warren, grandfather Eugene - "sarge," as he was known.
I'll claim ya, nevertheless. :) :pals:

If not, I'd try to get a tag I hear is available that says "Native Californian." Or "Last of the native Californians." :) You can see how far away I am. To all of us. :toast:

I have to confess I don't know where Orangevale is. I'd guess No. CA -- or somewhere around San Diego? :( bad Californian! BTW, since you live in Maryland, you are invited: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x3078781

24. One of the burbs of Sacramento |

between my hometown of Citrus Heights and historic Folsom. I lived there for a while when I got out of the Navy in 75. At the time, they claimed to have more horses per capita than anywhere else in the US. Pretty much Yuppieville now.

Born in Redding, and now live 2 hours away. I have never considered leaving, except if I were to move to Europe. Living in the Middle East for a year may have had something to do with that. But I love the landscape and feel part of it.

|
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 09:28 AM by cagoldensun5050
Hey, another native Californian here! I am from Rancho Cucamonga, in the Inland Empire east of L.A. I lived there from birth to 11 when my dad's work transferred us to Arizona and then Texas. I live independently now, but can't afford to move out of state right now. And the fact that I am stuck in an uber-conservative desert doesn't make it any better.

I spent 38 of my 45 years in CA. Does that count? My mom moved me to CA when I was 7; she's the native. I was there until last spring, 38 years.

:hi: yup, there aren't too many of us, and getting less. like you, most of the people i know were born elsewhere. this is such a transient state, but that's what makes it so vibrant!
something else - i attended the same hs that my mother and maternal gf attended. it ends there tho - none of either me or my sister's kids did.
