Anyone else think Patrick Murphy is the better choice against West than Lois Frankel? |
|
raised more money than any other congressional challenger in the nation in the first quarter, then shattered that figure with a $450,000 in the 2nd quarter.
There's nothing to indicate he's any less progressive than Frankel but he can easily come across as more moderate in a campaign. He doesn't have any controservy in his past we know of that they could use against him. Which is one of the benefits of being a 28 year old environmental/Construction Executive amd accountant and not a 63 year old longtime legislator who's gone through tons of primary and general election campaign wars.
It just seems like he's already running a much better campaign than her. Besides the fundraising, he has a great website with video ads and regular commentary/statements from the candidate. All she has is a one page 'contribute' banner so far.

1. It is a bit concerning that he was donating money to Charlie Crist when Crist was still a Republican |

Patrick Murphy was a Republican until last year; his family were major Crist fundraisers. He's a rich kid with no real experience except working for his dad. He will be a centrist Democrat and is not appealing to the base in this district (Jewish voters, liberals, women, people of color).
Lois is keeping up with his fundraising (which includes some of his own money), and has a long record of progressive and practical accomplishments in the legislature and as mayor of West Palm Beach that Murphy can't match and that will excite Democrats who need to be motivated to turn out (and won't necessarily be by Obama or Murphy) in order to beat West.
Having a good website does not mean having a good campaign. Lois is running a SMART campaign by raising money and conserving those resources for when it really counts.

7. In Murphy's defense... |

Crist is a long-time family friend. Rep./Dem. didn't have much to do with the fundraising in either case.

I agree. Might even like to see Ron Klein try again. Still too early in the game, but can't wait until West is out. I'm sure most of district 22 feels the same way. Sad that many don't show up at mid term elections and West was able to slide in with all his funding and ridiculous amount of billboards. Thing that upsets me the most is that he consistently ignores me. I've tried 2 emails for him. I've tried calling. I even tried his facebook page where that punk blocked me. However looking through his comments on social media is disturbing. He surely does not block anti-muslim comments or violent comments about the president (even if they are racist). Anyone who does criticize him is attacked, called every insult in the book, and marked as spam. Then he has the nerve to speak as if he supports the troops, but was willing not long ago to make the country default and cut off their salary.
Hope this forum works out, because others, even claiming to be liberal, are filled with the same violent, bigoted right wing trolls. I'll admit I'm not exactly liberal, but I'm not crazy. Makes me uneasy that such a violent group is so well organized, yet rational, intelligent folks are so scarce.

8. Ron Klein ran the worst re-election campaign I've ever seen. |
|
I mean ever. In all of politics, I cannot think of a worse re-election campaign. West did not slide in with some billboards. He ran a good campaign. You know how many words I heard Klein say on TV throughout the entire campaign? 8. I'm Ron Klein and I approved this message. He said nothing about what he had accomplished or what he planned to with another term, just put his tagline on idiotic slam ads that tried to tie West to the Outlaws and whatnot.
Meanwhile, West actually made appearances in his own ads. Sure, he threw around a bunch of bullcrap about "failed stimulus" and all this, but at least he said something.
I wouldn't vote Ron Klein for freaking dog catcher. Not if he ran unopposed. He votes right, but he has all the heart of a toad.
All that said, anything is, of course, better than West.
