Ohio 15th US Rep Deborah Pryce NEEDS TO GO!!
Ok, the OH 15th congressional district (in the Columbus area) was won by John Kerry in 2004. Yet the congressional rep is a deputy of Tom DeLay who often votes for incredibly conservative legislation. Every time DeLay holds a press conference, Pryce is right there next to him, giving him her support.
In 2004, she ran against a deadbeat candidate with no cash and not much of a campaign. Yet he still pulled in over 40%. 4 years ago, her opponent got around 25-30% (not exact stat, memory based). This is a clear indication that the people of her district are sick and tired of her. But the Ohio democratic party never has the balls to put a strong candidate up against her. I think this needs to change.
I've been searching around the internet for possible challengers, and I've found 2 that look intriguing. One is Richard C. Pfeiffer, the Columbus City Attorney. I don't know if this is a lofty enough position, but the guy looks pretty good. He's a Vietnam vet, and a very very strong environmentalist. Here's his website: http://www.columbuscityattorney.org/. Another is Columbus City Council President Matt Habash. Here's his website: http://council.ci.columbus.oh.us/councilmembers/habash/.
Obviously, these are just ideas, I know very little about either of these guys. But I firmly believe that Deborah Pryce should be one of our top target in 2006, for she is very vulnerable. I could make 1000 attack ads against her without even blinking, she has such a terrible record. I'd really appreciate it if any of you could help me out in my search to find a good candidate, and then work to try and convince this person to run. After that, we'd contact the DNC, moveon and anyone else that could help, because Pryce needs to go.
I apologize for the lack of organization in this post, I'm just excited/frustrated.

1. She Does Have An Opponent
Mark Losey will be running against Deborah Pryce in 2006. I won't cut and paste all the information here, but I will post some links.

First, his website is http://www.loseyforcongress.com/ but we haven't got it quite started yet.

To learn about him, click on this link:
http://www.bringohiohome.com/resources/LoseyForCongress.pdf (PDF File)

And we have scheduled out first rally on April 30th. To learn about that, click here:
http://www.bringohiohome.com/2005/04/come-meet-mark-losey-running-in-oh-15.html

This will be a serious race to defeat Deborah Pryce. Mark has serious backing in the Ohio Democratic community (can't mention names just yet, but they are very well known).

Mark Brown, who ran in 2002 and 2004 apparently campaigned from the dark side of Mars for all the exposure he had. In 2002 he won 33.41% and in 2004 he won 39.98% of the vote.

More detailed information about the numbers can be found here:

2. What about State Rep. Dr. Joyce Beatty?
I know she is in the Columbus area. She is currently the Democratic Goddess of the General Assembly! There are a few more to access out of the General Assembly.

5. Pfieiffer is a great guy, never met Habash
Pfeiffer was both an environmental judge and a state legislator before he replaced Janet Jackson (really) as City Attorney. Much better experience than Pryce had going in (Asst. Prosecutor/City Atty and Municipal Court judge -- misdemeanors and small claims) Of course experience matters much less for Franklin County Repugs than it does for Dems.

Don't know of the guy that the other poster mentioned that is already running against Pryce. However, one note on the numbers the last time around...the guy who ran as a Dem was not vetted or endorsed by the party, and was more libertarian than liberal. He had such scary anti-choice and theocratic views that I wondered if there was something afoot by that crowd to blind-side Pryce due to her stance on choice. (It was a big issue that she ducked and dodged when she first ran in order to get elected.)

7. Mark Losey
I am a friend of Mark's and am helping him out occasionally. He's a good guy, former prosecutor from Bellefontaine. I've known him for about three years now, and during that time I've become impressed with his integrity and honesty. He's working as an attorney for a pretty good Columbus firm and before that he was with another large law firm. His wife is, or soon will be, a dentist, and is also a good person.

After the last election, Mark and I were licking our wounds and trying to figure out what could be done. While I think he might have been thinking about it before, I think Kerry's defeat was the catalyst that made him decide to run. He wants to make a difference and has working hard studying the issues and meeting people. I think we in Ohio would be lucky to have someone like Mark representing us. He's not a professional politician, but he'll do his best to win. And I think he appeals to a broad cross section of people.

Anyway, I really don't think the 15th District needs a professional politician. They need someone who really is passionate about winning the next election, who is honest, and who will, if elected, do his best to advance a reality based progressive agenda. I think that Mark fits that template, so I hope you all will consider supporting his candidacy.

Here's his website: http://loseyforcongress.com/
