I know Tennessee is probably going to go red this fall...
but dammit - I don't care! I'm fired up and even if our state goes for McCain, maybe I can help downticket races. I vote, encourage friends and families to vote and donate as much money as I can spare. I'm getting married this fall so my time is limited but I'd like some help in getting started. What can I do to help? Who do I contact? I'm in East Tennessee. Thanks! :)

1. Getting started
I am in East Tennesse also, and you can go to the Tenn. Democratic Party website and click on your county. It will then show you where your party is and who the chairman is for that area. Then you can email the party leader and they can keep you updated on events, where they need help, etc. Most of the people that I talk to around here are going to vote with the dems this time. People are so fed up with this administration, they are finally paying attention. If you are in the first district (Tri-Cities area) we need help getting the word out about Rob Russell who is going for the congressional seat of the horrible David Davis this year. Rob is speaking at several towns in the area at local dem headquarters. It will be awful hard for a dem to win a seat in this area, but I am willing to help him try. Do what you can to help. I believe that few things are more empowering than getting involved with causes one believes in. Good luck and have fun!!

2. Thanks Julie!
I'm not in the Tri-Cities Area but my parents are. I'll let them know. It's kind of neat how many people up there are "secret" democrats. Meaning - they're not people who you'd normally think would be Dems. :D My dad was in the Lowe's parking lot the other night and this big, burly kind of scary guy came up to him and said "Dude I saw your bumper sticker." My dad was getting ready to listen to someone tell him how awful he was when the guy continued with "It's totally awesome!". :D

I did get the numbers for the Obama East Tennessee Contacts. If anyone is interested in them, please PM me and I'll be glad to give those numbers to you. I'm also going to contact our county party. I've just heard from several people who tried to get in touch with them and no one got back to them. Hopefully, with all of these contacts I've got now, I'll get some direction. Thanks again!

3. I know how you feel - but I see "O" everywhere
In Chattanooga. I don't know anyone other than my mother who is solidly "For" McGeriactric. Even the clerk at the drugstore had a neat rectangular Obama pin on her uniform - I want one! I keep telling myself to expect TN to show up in the 'red' (& I hate that marketing department color thing).

I really think it could happen, I have no idea how many people will vote this year who don't usually vote, I think the key is getting registrations done and being sure you're registered to vote - Don't let getting married mess you up! Make sure your address is correct and be sure if you change your name on your ID it isn't too close to election day. Congrats!

4. Remarkably few signs of support for McSame in West Knoxville
And I've been looking for them.
Farragut should be swimming in symbols of the rubber-stamp repubs, but it isn't.

5. More liberals in West Knoxville than you would think.
Lots of UT profs and ORNL, DOE, etc employees. I just don't think the base is fired up for McCain. I started seeing a lot more in my area when he picked Palin.
