2. I wonder if they are listening in Crawford?
Those people in Crawford ran out the Newspaper that endorsed Kerry. They need some time with Randi to straighten them out.

11. They didn't run the paper off.
It's still in business.

And I'm a subscriber, as are a lot of DU members who wanted to support it.

13. The paper might not have shut down
The paper might not have shut down, but a lot of people in town cancelled their subscritions and advertisers didn't buy ads.

14. Yes, very true.
They're selling T-shirts now to try to raise money. It's a good paper, too, and they haven't let up the heat on the Idiot Boy.

4. Nashville next, AAR. Nashville next.
We were a county of blue in one of the reddest of red states. You owe us that much.

7. Spring break AND Air America radio....life is GOOD!
I'm so excited, I have the radio on in a couple of rooms in my house. It's nice not having to be stuck at the computer just to listen for a change.

I'm jealous, my mom got to meet Al Franken yesterday at SXSW.

8. I would love to hear some stories.....
about the debut of AAR down there in Austin. Are people huddled in the basement listening on the "QT"...or driving around with it blasting out of the speakers?

I'm listening to Al Franken on the scene and the audience seems large and lovely!

I hope he talks about the bug man.

9. I can't pick up any AM stations in my house in Dripping Springs.
I think it's because we have a metal roof. But I'm headed to the dentist in Austin in a little while and I'm going to see if I can pick it up. I have AAR on Sirius but it will be cool to catch it on local radio, too!

12. I could pick it up from about ten miles west of Oakhill on 290.
I listened to Al Franken. I had a little static but not too bad.

10. Picking it up out here.
I live about 60 miles northwest of Austin and pick it up at about half strength. A bit noisy, but listenable.

16. I was there for the launch
It was awesome. I had to get up very early today to get in line to get tickets. It was a great show. I have a few pictures I'll post tomorrow. I've been running around all day doing SxSW film stuff.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy.

Molly Ivins, Chris Bell, Wonkette, a fight with John Fund via phone, Christi Harvey (sp?) giving the ugly on DeLay via phone. It was awesome. Talked with the owners of the station too. Very happy with the debut. Remember folks, you have to listen and support them.

Al is such a great guy. He stopped in last night at the fund raiser for the TX Observer with Jim Hightower and Molly Ivins. Did the AA launch at 11:00 today, did SxSW Interactive conference this afternoon, and was doing a fundraiser tonight for Annie's List. Annie's list is like Emily's List for TX. He's a whirlwind of energy.

Loved Al calling DeLay a MoFo.

Sonia

18. Franken on radio
Thank God!!!! Austin is much too educated to be forced to listen to Rush constantly. I wrote KLBJ and they just deleted my email.

Thanks KOKE 1600 - I just wish the signal was stronger!!!

21. Keep listening Beststash, if you listen they will grow
I talked to the owner and VP of operations for a bit. Once they get their marketing revenue numbers up, they will invest in more equipment. They're businessmen and we need to thank them for seeing the obvious, that thousands will listen to liberal radio.

By the way welcome to DU Beststash! :hi:

23. Do they plan to advertise?
I wouldn't have known they were on the air if it wasn't for DU. There are bound to be thousands of liberals in Austin who are dying to hear AAR!

24. I think they are Longhorn
But I didn't ask them directly. They got a lot of free media yesterday I'm sure. Lots of reporters from across the country were at the launch. Interestingly since this is a Hispanic owned business there was a lot of Hispanic coverage. That may be a good thing too.

You can help by just telling your friends in your area.

22. Here's the statesman article link - (ethical sense of walnuts)
With a real good picture.
http://www.austin360.com/sxsw/content/sxsw/articles/15airamerica.html
Franken launches radio show from Austin
Comedian, author targets Bush, DeLay in broadcast from the State Theater
(snip)
Franken found no shortage of Texas targets. With the aid of sidekick Katherine Lanpher and his guests, newspaper columnist Molly Ivins and former U.S. Rep. (and possible gubernatorial candidate) Chris Bell of Houston, he took on U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, under fire for alleged ethics violations; President Bush; congressional redistricting and numerous policies backed by the Bush administration.

"In Texas, our politicians are not crooks," Ivins said during one lively segment. "They just have the ethical sense of walnuts."
(/snip)

The owners of this station in Austin also own the Dallas, San Antonio and Brownsville/McAllen station. I did ask them about expanding to El Paso and they say they don't have any radio stations they own there but are looking into some possibilities.

I also loved the Quid Pro Quo PAC routine Al did.

Austin we are good to go. Launch was very successful.
