Strayhorn announces bid for mayor
Carole Keeton Strayhorn, the first woman to serve as mayor of Austin and state comptroller, formally announced on Monday that she will run again for Austin mayor in the upcoming election.

Strayhorn, who staged an unsuccessful campaign to unseat Gov. Rick Perry in 2006, said she didn’t think she would ever run for mayor of Texas’ capital city again. “But a long time ago, Austin gave me a start,” she told those gathered for her announcement in North Austin Monday morning. “And now I am eager to return the favor.”

Older news, but I had been hearing rumors about this for a bit.

2. Has she been on a diet?
She's down to only three names.

3. No way, No McClellan
No way she's going to clear up the confusion of all her "hidden names". And if the Teachers union gets behind her on this local run, their reputation is trashed.

I really wonder why she wants to do this. She is at the end of her political career for all practical purposes. Why does she want to go out on two successive losses? She's not even in very good health. These are tough times and the stress of running the city during a recession will be very tough even on a resilient person.

I don't think she will win, even with republican support. Has she looked at the demographics of Austin lately? She might pull this off in Round Rock, but I really doubt she's going to win Austin.

Nuts!
