I'm visiting the Door Peninsula next week -- any must sees? |
|
Edited on Mon May-05-08 11:14 AM by 1gobluedem
Just a leisurely vacation in a place we hear is beautiful. I think we're aiming for the Apple Creek Resort in Fish Creek as our home base; don't know much more about the Door Peninsula other than that. So, we're open to suggestions! Especially for restaurants.
We'll probably head to Milwaukee near the end of the week to see my brother and sister-in-law.

1. I wouldn't miss out on watching a fish boil |
|
Fun to see the flames shoot 20 feet in the air, and more fun to eat when it's done.
That Al Johnson's down by Sister Bay has some pretty good pancakes, too.
Honestly, I haven't been up to Door County in 20 years...just going from memory.

2. Is Al Johnson's the place with a grass roof with a goat on top? |
|
I haven't been up there in many years. When I was married we went up for our anniversary every year and just sort of drove around the peninsula and stopped at whatever looked interesting. Your hotel or inn should have a listing of any events going on while you're there. I'm pretty sure that they're required to test you to make sure you have eaten cherries before they can let you leave :) so make sure you save room for pie.

3. We've stayed at Apple Creek Resort |
|
At the top of the hill in Fish Creek. Clean, practical, nothing fancy. It's next to Penninsula State Park, we rented bicycles and got some fresh air. A neat little cafe at that corner where we could get breakfast afterwards, forget the name.
Catch a sunset over the bay.
As Connie pointed out, Al Johnson's in Sister Bay has the goats on the roof, and Swedish pancakes. :)
Wilson's Ice Cream parlor in Ephriam, but not sure if it's open yet.
Penninsula Players, but doubt they're open yet either.
And too soon for cherry pickin'. May is a tough time to enjoy all the beauty.
Another thing to see is all the commercial development. :(

I'm in Algoma, just 6 miles south of the county line. :)
Looks like the trees are starting to bud, so you might see some cherry blossoms next week.
I'm certain that the resort will have ample suggestions for you. Enjoy!

You don't go through the town anymore. You also bypass the Nicolet statue. :(
Lots of changes.
