1. Just a kick and a reminder that conventions often have great speakers |
|
I've been to a few and they are usually very motiviating.
You can go as a guest and sometimes there is a small charge to cover costs and a meal. But it is a great way to meet your local representatives, see what your local Dem party is up to and hear some great speakers.
I highly recommend it if politics is your thing.

It costs $15 to pre-register (which I did yesterday) or $20 at the door the day of the Convention.
Here's who we know is going to be here:
Russ Feingold Peg Lautenschlager Doyle may come.

Sen. Dave Hansen Sen. Roger Breske
These guys are gonna get dragged across the coals by the GLBT contingent for voting for the marriage amendment this June at state, I know it. Hell, they may even take some flak at 8th CD.
You have to understand, Hansen had no choice but to vote for the fucking thing. His senate district is pretty conservative, and had it not been for his opponent's refusal to take sides on the Lambeu Field renovation issue, he would have lost in 2000. Hansen needed to vote for the damn thing so the fundies wouldn't come out in droves to vote against him come this Movember. I know it isn't right, but We can't afford to let the repukes get a bigger lead in either house this year, and besides, When he's re-elected, he can always vote no when the amendment comes around for its second vote.

The food served at the Rail House, where we're holding the convention is pretty damn good. They are also brew their own halfway decent beer, and I would reccomend the Scottish Ale, if they have it.

9. I oughta smack you..... |

Peg gave a great speech, and recieved a standing ovation from everyone at the convention. She really laid the smack down on the problem of payday loan places.

10. I'm pretty angry at Peg. |

I know damn' well what would have happened to me if I had been picked up drunk in a state car while off duty and driving personal miles that I wasn't reporting.
How far is it from Fond du Lac to Madison? 70 miles? She should have been paying $.343 plus applicable state & county sales tax per mile each way every day. The rest of us, the career state workers do it.
But I forget myself. Rules are for the Little People.
As is usually the case when some big shot is caught doing illegal things, they'll take it out on the career employees. It's already starting. Shortly drivers of personally assigned cars will be having to do an incredible amount of bookkeeping, just to prove that they aren't abusing their mileage.
So piss off.

Bart Stupak of Michigam will speak.
We're still not sure whether Governor Doyle will come up. His office has him pencilled in, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

8. Convention went great! |
|
All of our speakers, save for Doyle Showed up. The Food was pretty good, sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, and pasta salad. Feingold was a little late, but he fired us up quite a bit. We went through the process of going over resolutions for the platform, but we won't know which of our ten resoulutions have been approved for a couple of days. It was a great con!
