Yes this story is as trashy as you would expect from the Sun but I think there is a wee bit of truth in it.

This election campaign has IMHO been totally uninspiring and has failed to talk to anyone outside of the main parties target voters. The politicians have not even been addressing that many issues this time round! No wonder so few people are showing any interest.

I'll have to take a cold bath now, as I always feel unclean after visiting the S*n's website, but you lot can make of this what you will. No wonder that apathy looks like being the only winner at this election.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2005191065,00.html

With just nine days to go until polling day, the parties have missed a big opportunity to galvanize the British public.

Where are the inspirational speeches which prick the public’s conscience? Where is the language which connects with normal people? And where is the genuine concern for our lives and the vision to improve them?

Turnout fell to 59 per cent at the last election. That compares with 83.9 per cent in 1950, 78.8 per cent in 1974 and 77.7 per cent in 1992.

Recent polls have pointed to a turnout on May 5 of slightly less than 2001 — about 56 per cent. The blame for the apathy lies squarely at the feet of our out-of-touch politicians who have a responsibility to motivate the electorate.

1. I know the feeling

I watched the Channel 4 program, the Election Unspun, last night and actually found myself agreeing with Peter Osborne of the Spectator. Since his political views sit on the opposite side of the political spectrum to mine this was a bit disturbing. However, what he said was true. All the nasty choices on pensions, taxation, global warming etc are being kept hidden from the public whilst the marketeers try to sell the political parties to us like fast food. The public are no longer regarded as active participants in democracy but mere consumers to be served up whatever cocktail of policies that the ad men think the floating voter will find most appertising. Needless to say none will prove to be as tasty and nutritional as the label suggests. At least during the elections of the 1970's and 1980's we had some choice about what we would be eating.

2. "Supersize Election"
"Fast-Election Nation"

What's the political version of Subway then? Which party lets you see how the stuff is put together & you choose what goes in it?
