Keep fighting... this is far from over!!!
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 02:43 PM by leroy_27
I feel this country is more screwed up than it has ever been. It is more polarized. The fiscal situation, both macroeconomics (deficit, trading gaps, oil, possible collapse of the dollar vs. Euro or yen, outsourcing) and microeconomics (unemployment, soaring debt to income ratio, widening income gap, bankruptcy and foreclosure rates) is alarming. Social programs (education, NCLB, Medicare, welfare, Social Security) are being gutted. Land management (EPA, BLM, NPS) is a euphemism. Energy policy is dictated by the producers/importers. The cryptofascist (I don't use political labels glibly. Fascism is the unholy marriage of government and industry, to paraphrase Mussolini. You can call it neocon all day long, but it's still the same pig in a prom dress) policies of this administration are removing the demos from democracy. Totalitarian tactics are the norm (Patriot Act, free speech zones, total government secrecy). Isolationism and unilateralism are policy. War is now willingly engaged, while Homeland Security rides in the trunk. Dogma replaces doctrine. Faith replaces facts. Government is being transformed to a very frightening degree. I honestly believe that that flushing sound you hear is our democratic republic in the commode of this administration.

The egg is still incubating. Any of these things come to fruition (economic collapse, terrorist attack, nuclear strike by 'rouge nation,' plague, famine, rained on picnics) and Bush will reap the sour grapes. Bush was allowed a grace period. He 'inherited' a bad economy. 9/11 was a legacy of weak Democrats. None of which I buy, mind you, but that's the meme. Liberalism can not now be discredited because the seeds planted by THIS administration will now be pinned to this administration. I believe this administration and its policies are a train wreck waiting to happen. Until the train wrecks, though, a large percentage of this country will continue to suffer from collective headupbuttitisosis. It'll NEVER be fixed until it's proven broken If this administration is to truly be held accountable, it should lie in its filth until it's widely acknowledged as dirty. Otherwise, progressives will be blamed for stirring up dust trying to clean house, and the government will just jerk along until it derails itself from the vision of a nation founded with the people as its primary concern. Remember, we had to suffer Hoover and the Great Depression to get the New Deal. Europe had to suffer a great deal to become a Union. Asia, Africa, and South America are emerging from various totalitarian regimes. Totalitarianism, fascism, ANY government that does not value its citizens above its own self-interests will fail. I believe ultimately in the ideals of progressive governing, and that they shall prevail.

Come together! We need some time to heal and to vent, to cry and wail and gnash teeth, but our job still looms ahead of us.

Remember Plame, Abu Ghraib! Keep your eyes on the plight of the downtroddden, the suffering, the repressed! Stand up when authority is abused and people are denied their rights! Follow the money as it is taken from the pockets of everyone without clout to line the pockets of HMOs, oligopolies, media giants, and Big Oil!

Muckraker unite!

This administration has failed before, and it will continue to follow its asinine ways. Call them out on it, and open the eyes of your neighbors. Always welcome those with doubts, and remember that the vast majority of voters, though misguided and convoluted, followed their hearts and fears. They need knowledge and understand; facts, NOT hate. Be the pea under the mattress, the prodding stick for the sleeping giant. We fought a tough one. Let's not call a defeat just because our guy lost!!!
