Springsteen calls Wal-Mart CD deal a mistake
Published: 1/30/09, 3:46 PM EDT
NEW YORK (AP) - The Boss is owning up to a mistake. In an interview with Sunday's New York Times, Bruce Springsteen says he shouldn't have made a deal with Wal-Mart. This month, the store started exclusively selling a Springsteen greatest hits CD.
Some fans were critical because Springsteen has been a longtime supporter of worker's rights, and Wal-Mart has faced criticism for its labor practices.
Springsteen told the Times that his team didn't vet the issue as closely as he should have, and that he "dropped the ball on it."
Springsteen went on to say: "It was a mistake. Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be."

1. At least he acknowledges it and takes responsibility |
|
That's really what we ask for. That makes him far and above most celebrities out there.

4. Putting your $$ where your mouth is |
|
Well,he could REALLY distinguish himself and give his share of the take from music sales at WalMart and donate the $$ to EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act) advocates so that the WalMart employees and other overworked and underpaid folk can get a more level playing field.

5. In this case ,yes, that would be a great gesture , but for the record, |
|
Bruce Springsteen HAS put his $ where his mouth was consistently over the years, including significant financial support of organizations such as Vietman vet's groups, unions, and local food banks, where he would not only give money, but actually stop by to talk with them about the situations in their respective communities. I'm sure he ain't no saint ( in the city) , and has obviously built up a nice little chunk o' cash for himself, but just wanted to point out that he HAS "distinguished himself" with his support of grassroots organizations over the years even though I certainly agree with you that it would be an awesome gesture to donate specifically to the EFCA campaign .
