Dolphins owner on Chad Henne

Mad--Don't worry it's not a dupe. This is a different quote than the one you posted.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, boldly predicting his team will play in the Super Bowl this season, as quoted on NBC Miami: "I think in February, we will be playing in the Super Bowl. thinks that too, and so does every player on the team. You just have to go out and do it." Added Ross: "I'm sure, and I'm hoping — as everybody else is — that goes down as the greatest quarterback in Miami Dolphin history. And you know what that will mean."

Williams: Our job to reach the bar

DAVIE, Fla. -- Ricky Williams can't understand why bold comments made by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross over the weekend have created such a stir.

Ross predicted the Dolphins would play in the Super Bowl and suggested Chad Henne could go down as the greatest quarterback in team history, a lofty notion considering Dan Marino and Bob Griese played for them.

"If you don't approach the season thinking that, then you shouldn't be playing football," Williams told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "The reason he said that is he probably heard Coach Sparano say it, and that takes a lot of balls for a head coach to say it. He raised the bar, and it's our job to reach it."

Henne enters his third pro season, his first as the starting quarterback. He took over as the starter when Chad Pennington suffered a career-threatening shoulder injury in Week 3 last season. He has made only 13 career starts. He threw 12 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions on a run-oriented team.

Williams shrugged at the idea that comparing Henne to all-time greats was unfair.

"Who would Chad Henne be if he said 'I want to be the second-best quarterback in Miami Dolphins history?'" said Williams, who rushed for 1,121 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. "I don't want a quarterback like that on my team. I think you set the bar and you work hard.

I posted Ricky's comments because he makes great points.

1. There's a reason why coaches, GMs, and owners usually answer so ambiguously...
One, is not to create unnecessary pressure or anxiety on any given player.

Two, is not to give your opponents extra incentive to prove your grandiose predictions wrong.

There are other ways Ross could have phrased his comments.

4. I hope he plays well enough to beat the Patriots...
and poorly enough to lose on November 28th and December 5th.

:)

2. See Auggie's comment. I have DeAngelo Hall's comments on my bulletin board
at work "DeAngelo Hall says Skins will dominate NFC East"

I'm sure everyone in the NFC East has that comment posted on their BB.

I would be sure that everyone, at least in the AFC East, has Ross' comments on their BB's.
