ESPN: Cam Cameron Fired
Not too many details yet, but this was hardly unexpected.

At the very least, Cam provided some laughs for Dolphins fans this year. From getting booed on draft day, to then him saying he drafted Ted Ginn's family, Cameron's stay was laughable.

He wasn't necessarily the problem in Miami, but he probably wasn't the solution either.

So long Cam. At least you were able to make Tony Dungy's book a bestseller. About his only "success" with the Dolphins.

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron was fired Thursday morning, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports, continuing the team's shakeup following the hiring of Bill Parcells as head of football operations.

Cameron's fate was decided a day after the Dolphins hired Jeff Ireland as their new general manager and less than a week after Cameron finished a 1-15 season in his first year as an NFL head coach.

Cameron met Tuesday with Parcells.

1. Miami Herald article:
Dolphins fire coach Cameron

<snip>

"One and done.

Less than a year after the Dolphins hired Cam Cameron, the team advised him Thursday morning that he has been fired as Miami's head coach. A search for his replacement is already underway.

Cameron, who coached the Dolphins for just one season to a 1-15 record, was unable to successfully convince vice president of football operations Bill Parcells that he should be the man to turn around the team's dismal season.

Cameron's entire staff has been jettisoned -- except for linebacker coach George Edwards and assistant special teams coach Steve Hoffman.

A news conference has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday.

The firing comes one day after Parcells named Jeff Ireland the team's general manager.

Parcells and Cameron arrived at the team's Davie facility early Thursday. They were then met inside by owner Wayne Huizenga, who showed up driving his black Mercedes-Benz.

Parcells had previously met with Cameron for several hours early Tuesday afternoon, but a decision about his fate had not yet been made -- or at least Parcells was keeping it as close to his vest as possible.

The Dolphins are expected to soon be in contact with Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano and Arizona running backs coach Maurice Carthon. Sparano is scheduled to interview for the Falcons' vacant head-coaching job Friday.

Even if the team eventually chose not to hire Carthon, an interview with him would still be important to satisfy the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to include minority candidates in their interviewing process."

5. Top five candidates for Miami job
<snip>

The Tuna won't have to swim through an entire sea of coaches to find Cam Cameron's replacement.

New Dolphins football czar Bill Parcells knows the kind of head coach he wants to fix Miami's sinking ship, which is why Cameron was fired days after completing his first season. Parcells will target someone who understands his modus operandi and can work in lockstep with new general manager Jeff Ireland.

Miami's new coach is expected to have previous ties with Parcells and most likely the Dallas Cowboys. Parcells coached the Cowboys from 2003 to 2006 and is on the same wavelength with Ireland, who was Dallas' scouting director until being hired away by Miami earlier this week.

Expect the Dolphins to take a long look at the following candidates:

6. I think Cameron's going to catch on somewhere (KC, maybe) and kick ass.
Everything went wrong this year, but for a lot of reasons that were already in place before Cameron arrived. Draft pick debacles galore, Ricky Williams, a porcelain quarterback and six days of rain behind center...it's a miracle they won that one game at all.

He was very good in San Diego - notice how Rivers' performance fell off in Cameron's absence, and LT took a long time to get going - and will be good somewhere else. Parcells may rue this one someday.
