Michigan QB transferring to Arkansas (Mallett)
Apparently his father has Arkansas ties. I can't say that I blame him, if a new style of offense is coming in. I'm glad that they made the decision quickly.

This article is still speculating, but it appears to be a done deal.

1. Will he have to sit out a year
unlike his new coach? Sad to see the kids suffer because of the comings and goings of millionaire coaches.

but then, I don't think he's all that good of a fit for the Razorbacks, either. he's a big pocket passer, think Tebow without the running ability. Rodriguez is believed to want to open up the Michigan offense into a spread (yuck) is Arkansas going to revert to pocket-protection pro-style?

and it's not like he is following his coach to a new school, his coach retired/was fired/wants to spend more time with his family.

6. Christ ..........
Wouldn't he have to sit out a year, even if the new coach were penniless? I'm a Nutt fan, and I believe the group responsible for the cess pool created with the banners, blackshirts, fois, lies, and spin, are probably among the lowest, vile creatures to walk the earth, but having said that, the players supercede any coach loyalties. Recruiting is looking very good under Petrino, and the bitchin and crying over Mallet's transfer will be short-lived. I'd say it will end when the clock reaches zero in the first game Mallet plays in. Nutt seems to be happy with his move, and I wish him the best, except during one game a year, but my loyalty to the young men actually playing the game supercedes any loyalty to any coach, and it being obvious that the players are getting behind Petrino, leaves me no choice but to get behind him also. It's the young men who take the hits for our pride, glory, and entertainment that should be put first. Always. Thanks.

PS: As for Petrino leaving the NFL before the season ends? I don't know how he lasted as long as he did, trying to coach a bunch of spoiled, prima-donna brats in men's bodies, topped off with the fact that they already sucked as a team, and that will probably continue for the forseeable future. Petrino was smart in getting out, and Arkansas was smart to pick him up. Wait and see.

9. I agree with your assessment of the cess pool creators
I also hope Petrino does well and if he does I hope he stays, but thats not his track record. I'm a UA grad and only want the best for my athletic department. But I still can't wrap my head around the rationale that coaches can come and go and players can't. I'm not bitching about the kids transfer. But he left Michigan (wanted to leave because of their new coach.) I doubt midway through the season he was hoping an opening would materialize in Fayetteville.

10. For some reason.....
Petrino has been held to a higher standard than other coaches who have faced similar situations. Lou Holtz comes to mind, and one other that I can't recall at the moment. Both quit the pro ranks before the end of the season, and pretty much got a pass. The difference in pro ball and college is huge, and it's been shown that some coaches are not suited for the pro ranks, but excel among the college ranks. One of the biggest differences is in the pro ranks, you have grown men who are the proverbial "old dogs, new tricks" guys, and in college you have the young, and malleable, new puppies, who can be taught, and molded into the kind of player a coach is looking for. I think Petrino is one of them. As for coming to Arkansas, I can't fault him for taking advantage of the opportunity. I think he's doing a pretty good job so far, given the fact, and noone can honestly dispute this, that the boys at ESpiN, spent months verbally trashing Arkansas, Petrino, and openly discouraging recruits from considering UA. Coaches, who we know, are over-paid professionals are fair game, but when you try to influence players using the kind of disgusting rhetoric of espin, that's going too far. Mallet coming to Arkansas will help recruiting, and most believe he is the quarterback for the 09 season, but, I believe he will be faced with taking the job from Nathan Dick. Ever since I saw him play in the Texas-Oklahoma Oil City bowl, I believe, I thought, there's no way this kid doesn't end up playing on Saturday. I've rambled on here too much, but I do get carried away a little when it comes to the Razorbacks. Not a grad myself, blue collar construction worker, but I am proud to have a son and daughter-in-law who are UA grads. I'm proud of them both. Thanks, and of course, GO HOGS!!!

4. Yes, he has to sit out a year, but that's good for a QB, don't you think?
He played a few games for Michigan this year and did okay - he's got a great arm, and I also thought he had a good attitude. I wouldn't want to play for Petrino, though.

7. Good to hear that about him
He's from my city and he's got a good fan base here. They'll be happy he's coming home.

8. Attitude
Not supposed to be that good, I remember hearing a couple of people compare him to "Ryan Leaf on steroids" both athletically and maturity wise. He probably will do good sitting out the year, but I think Arkansas needs him ASAP since they lost Mustain to USC (thats what you get when you hire the guy's HS coach as your offensive coordinator and fire him after one year). Mallet's big problem is he tries to make the big play too often, likes chucking it down field, and since his accuracy isn't the best, it usually doesn't end up well.
