What are these "options" to abortion that I hear so much about?? |
|
I keep hearing/reading about "options to abortion," but I just can't come up with any. Can one of you help me?
Here's the first scenario:
Woman is pregnant. Woman does not want to have a child.
So her options are: 1) Have an abortion 2) Be an incubator until it's born.
~~~~~~~~~~ Here's the second scenario: Woman is pregnant. Woman does not want to BE PREGNANT any longer, much less continue to incubate a fetus until delivery.
So her options are: 1) Have an abortion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So what are these other options to abortion I keep hearing about? I see only two courses of action: abort or incubate for scenario one, and abort for scenario two.

2. two things I can think of |
|
give the baby up for adoption or keep the kid. I'm not sure how many kids the adoption method can absorb. There's got to be a limit to how many people want to adopt. But it does have it's merits. My best friend is adopted.

government run ORPHANAGES. Back in the times when abortion was illegal, even with all the back alley abortions and rich "vacations", there still was nowhere to put all these kids but in an orphanage. My father-in-law lived in one for many years, because his parents couldn't afford to feed him, his brother, and them. He used to say, "I wouldn't put a dog in one of those places." This is our new future if they get their way.

7. that only fits scenario one, and we already know about adoption. |
|
so what's the option under scenario two? I can't think of any except abortion, can you?

10. The method isn't absorbing them now |
|
The U.S. foster child system is full of tens of thousands of children who are eligible for adoption. However, very few people are interested in adopting "flawed" or nonwhite children above a few months old.

of course, before the pragnacy there should have been better access and types of birth control, but then the pro-lifers are against that too.

4. There's not a single pregnant woman on this planet... |
|
...who does not know that one option is to try to carry a baby to term, and then give it up for someone else to raise (whether adoption, or whatever the local culture permits).
The anti-choice foes want the only available choices to include "bring the baby to term." Some few are willing to allow for abortion in the case of rape or incest -- but the hardliners wouldn't allow even this. Heck, at the extreme, they'd just as soon put the mother's life at risk, in such cases where a pregnancy will likely kill or utterly ruin a woman's ability to have any other babies (in the case of abnormal pregnancies).
And no, they don't see anything wrong with forcing a woman to endure the temporary slavery of an unwanted pregnancy.

Correct, the hard line Christians won't "kill" an ectopic pregnancy in the Fallopian tube which has ZERO change of making it to term, but WILL threaten the woman's life. Went through that one.

and trust me, there were quite a few of those in the 50s and 60s when unwed pregnancy was shamed and nearly criminalized.
Then there was the forced marriage to the guy who'd tried to walk away from the whole thing, really great option there.

11. I'll tell ya how to handle unwanted pregnancy: |
|
Save the money you would have spent on an abortion, and spend it on cigarettes and booze. Stay wasted every day, since you didn't want a baby anyhow.
Think this doesn't happen in real life, every day, right now? Try working in Special Education at your local school, and you will encounter these fruits of the womb.

12. This issue isn't about babies - it's about sex and control |
|
Particularly about the control of women's sexuality.
The people who think that a woman who gets pregnant should only be allowed scenario one, that of carrying to term and then put the baby up for adoption, simply don't acknowledge scenario two: that women might not want to be pregnant. Their "option" for women who don't want to "be pregnant" is "don't have sex". I've seen the sentiment expressed even here on DU - if you have sex, you run the risk of getting pregnant ergo if you don't want to be pregnant, don't have sex.
The mindset is that sex should only be a means of procreation and not even a loving expression between two people who act responsibly should be having sex if they don't want to "accept the consequences".
