Television Star 'Judge Judy' Scheindlin Backs Homosexual "Marriage"
Appearing on CNN's Larry King Live Tuesday, television personality Judith Scheindlin a.k.a. 'Judge Judy', came out in favour of homosexual 'marriage'. Scheindlin, an outspoken judge who takes cases to be aired on television was thought by many to be conservative.

Asked by Larry King about "gay marriage", Sheindlin replied, "Who is it hurting? You know, my grandmother used to say who is it hurting? So, I ask you, Larry, if you have two adults and they happen to both be of the same sex and they love each other and they want to set up a home with each other they have as much of a shot as heterogeneous couples do. Fifty-two percent of marriages end in divorce, you know."

The pop-culture icon known by the household name of 'Judge Judy' continued, "So if it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. And if it's important for them to use the word marriage, rather than civil union or whatever other language that some people would prefer that they use I ask you it's not hurting me. It doesn't impact on my life. Why is there such a big fuss about it? Why are people so invested in it? I just don't get the negativity. I don't get it."

Judge Judy to the religious reich: "Do I have homophobic bigot written across my forehead?"

The answer is ... apparently not!

2. My partner likes watching her.
Me, well, it's fine if you enjoy the same scenario over and over again.

1. Woman falls for loser.
2. Loser "borrows" money from woman.
3. Woman asks for money back.
4. Loser says it was a "gift".
5. Woman drags loser to court.
6. Loser gets raked by Judge Judy.

Lather, rinse repeat.

4. Don't forget...
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 04:12 PM by shenmue
The all-time classics of the show, namely:

1) Who keyed the car? a) Drunk jealous person at party; b) dumb neighbor.

2) Who owns this sofa?

3) Were you supposed to fix this under the lease agreement? (photo of flood rot in apartment)

And the topper,

4) Who pays for this cell phone bill?

There's not an episode that doesn't deal with at least one of these, every time.

Kudos for her stance on gay marriage. I think it's about time more people started saying that in reality, it wouldn't hurt a thing.

5. LOL!
Yes, I've seen all those, too!

You've got to admit, if people watched more Judge Judy, I'd bet there wouldn't be as many people making STUPID, STUPID mistakes like these.

:)

8. My favoriteJudge Judy line is the quote from her father
"Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining."

Informing Larry King that 52% of marriages end in divorce: priceless.

3. Judge Judy drives me crazy sometimes,
but she's no fool - she's a tough as nails but is endowed with a bus load of common sense. And after all, it is common sense to allow homosexual marriage - for as she says - who is it hurting??????

6. Amen to that.
She does have a lot of sense - I almost never disagree with a ruling. And she's right about marriage - what's the fuss about?

23. I agree
She does not suffer fools gladly, and that can be maddening about her at times, because of her lack of patience and sometimes snappish behavior, but she certainly has it on here. Good for you, Judy.

10. She definitely belongs

in the Jewish Mother Hall of Fame.

Not that she stands a chance of dethroning Gene Simmons's mother from top honors there. But nonetheless.

Why do they even talk about gay issues if they are a "Pro-Life" website?

19. Exactly. You caught it. That is, that this is a religious rightwingnut
.
Exactly. You caught it. That is, that this is a religious rightwingnut website who are attempting to repudiate same-sex marriage. Lookit. They placed marriage in quotation marks as if it's not a reality. And then they stated that Judge Judy was "conservative." Uuummmm, no Scheindlin is not conservative nor liberal or moderate by any legal yardstick. Instead, Scheindlin interprets and applies the law as any competent judge would do; however, she gives it a Hollywood flare of *lights, camera, action* . . . unlike judges w/i the judicial branch of government.

"HOLLYWOOD, October 6, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Appearing on CNN's Larry King Live Tuesday, television personality Judith Scheindlin a.k.a. 'Judge Judy', came out in favour of homosexual 'marriage'. Scheindlin, an outspoken judge who takes cases to be aired on television was thought by many to be conservative."

As a lawyer, myself, I think these television judges, overall, don't add to the legal profession but detract from the legal profession. However, that being said, doesn't take away from Scheindlin's fair and even-handedness on her show however flamboyant and colorful it is for the cameras.

Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 06:47 AM by terrya
Good for her. She has it exactly right. I'm not going to add a thing here.

She sounds like my mom, actually. Mom has really, really evolved on gay issues. She asked me a while back why there are people who are opposed to same-sex marriage...she just couldn't understand why anyone would be against it.

a stement to the effect that there are so many REAL, and IMPORTANT problems in the world today; why is taking all our attention?

She was great.

18. I always said Judge Judy should be nominated to the Supreme Court...
...she's the type of woman who can appeal to everyone across the line. She's tough, rough, and doesn't back down - she's strong. I like that even if I don't always agree, and I think everyone here can agree that Jude Judy would make a better Supreme Court Judge than every other person that made it onto Bush's lists. :P

Anyway, I love two of her most famous quotes:
"Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining." and "Beauty fades, dumb is forever."

22. It makes sense....
When Judge Judy has had gay or lesbian ex-lovers appear before her in court, she has said that if homosexuals want the right to marry that homosexuals should also have the same responsibilities that come with a divorce.

So it would only make sense that she would support giving homosexual couples the right to have the opportunity for a marriage in the first place.

25. Judge Judy and the Humiliate-the-Poor Show
I'm glad that she supports the rights of gay people to marry, but her show is among the most disgusting on the air -- the real-life actors are usually half out of their minds, the format is a hypocritical sham, and the ringleader -- Judge Judy Herself -- is a nasty, sarcastic bully who gets millions of dollars per year to humiliate people who will never own the kind of manse on Lawn Guyland (or the Main Line or Grosvenor Square or Russian Hill) that Judge and Mr. Scheindlin do. And the show is just one in a long line of TV shows that use the degradation of the poor as cheap entertainment for the just-above-poor.

Let her start trying rich people in her video court-manqué; then maybe I'll give it a second chance.

Pop culture icon? So is "Doctor Laura".

"I just don't get the negativity. I don't get it." Yeah, Judy, I quite agree, which is why I don't watch your viscious show.

Do I have anything positive to say (other than the first statement I wrote)? I sure do: At least it's not COPS.
