Photos from Collosal Squid dissection ... (BBC)

The stretched out squid covered an entire laboratory bench at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. The scientists have not revealed their specimen's exact length but it is estimated at 10m (32ft). It is thought the colossal squid can grow to about 15m (49ft).

The colossal squid's water turned yellow as the days progressed. Bits of fish in the net that had trapped the squid dissolved. Body fluids emerged; and some of the ammonium chloride that squid use for buoyancy may have leaked from its sac. The sweet smell of success!
