Biggest Full Moon of the Year Tonight
January 8, 2009: When last month's full Moon rose over Florida, onlooker Raquel Stanton of Cocoa Beach realized that something was up.

"The Moon was stunningly gorgeous--and it looked bigger than usual!" she says. "My whole family noticed and watched in awe."

Like millions of others around the world, she had witnessed the biggest full Moon of 2008--a "perigee Moon," 14% wider and 30% brighter than lesser Moons she had seen before. "I'll never forget it."

Alert: It's about to happen again.

This Saturday night, Jan. 10th, another perigee Moon is coming. It's the biggest full Moon of 2009, almost identical to the one that impressed onlookers in Dec. 2008.

2. Yeah........I m really bummed...
I was looking forward to seeing the moon in Perigee. Rats!
It is raining so hard here...I can barely see the end of my porch..let alone the moon.
Bummer.

3. I just went out and looked and it is very bright.
There is also a circle around it way farther away from the moon than I have ever seen a ring.

6. Really? I lived in Northern MN
I used to come home late at night and just sit and watch it. I think it is the most beautiful sight you can see on our planet. Although when I lived in Southern Minnesota I only saw it once. Now I never see it.

8. I live in La Crosse which is on the Mississippi near southern MN.
People here have seen them here. A few years back when I was working the night shift someone asked me if I had seen the Northern Lights. I hadn't, but only because I hadn't looked in the right direction.

7. Here is a shot of it taken about an hour ago
from outside my front door. Clouds and tree limbs are visible in the foreground. The camera is an Olympus EVOLT E-510 10 megapixel SLR with a 14-42mm lens.

It may be a little amateurish, but so am I at this point. :7 At the moment, I'm just trying to have a little fun and improve my night time shooting skills.
