Quartz coutertops
Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 06:32 PM by eleny
I saw a segment on Food TV this afternoon. They were redoing a kitchen and were installing quartz countertops.

Quartz is the forth hardest material on earth. http://www.csulb.edu/~rodrigue/geog140/lectures/crustmaterials.html

These countertops resist staining, have almost infinite color choices because colors can be added in the manufacturing (they can even look like marble) and these aren't as expensive as granite. Here's a site with some info. http://www.oldhouseweb.com/stories/Detailed/10342.shtml

I just realized that this is the same material SW FL Dem is using in her kitchen! Wow! This is some fabulous stuff!!!

1. As I had posted in that thread .....
while these may or may not appeal to any given person's sense of aesthetics, this may well be the perfect counter material.

As to cost, Corian ranges from lower than this to about the middle. Granite ranges from more expensive than this down to about the middle range of this stuff's cost. So there's this overlap at about the center of the price range for this stuff where cost alone equal for all three.

2. I saw some granite on the net that iI fell in love with
But it comes from South America, is carried by a company out of state and... well... the hubby refuses to become a street walker for my granite needs. Quartz looks like I can go a little wilder for my dishwasher, too.

Now, it was really painful looking at the huge, professional side by side reach in fridge freezer combo. *Sigh*. Nothing will ever help make up for those pricey jobs made in heaven. Forget the fancy car. Forget the fancy wardrobe. Even forget the big fancy house. Just give me one of those 54 inch wide fridge freezers. And if they have glass doors? Oh ma gawd!

4. Hee-hee!
I know what you mean. But I figure it would make me better at clearing and cleaning. And then there's the matching storage containers. But really, I think they would make me a better housekeeper. It's one reason why I want the French door fridge. No bending and peering into the fridge to see what the hell is back in there. With everything at eye level, I can nip emerging nations from starting in the nether regions.

Btw, the fridge freezer combo viewing started with the site you posted earlier for bar towels. I did another search for towels in Denver and a company that turned up also had the huge fridge freezers. It was a commercial site. You know - bar towels by the case. I'm going to go with the company you posted. Thanks so much for that, too.

5. You know, you may find a commercial unit is cheaper than a residential one
Seriously, shop around. Go to a local supply house and see what they have. Look at what you can see in restaurants or even fast food joints.

What you give up, however, is fancy-schmancy features .... like ice makers, water dispensers, etc. Plus, the commercial units are as big as a school bus when compared to residential units.
