5. Thank you for getting this organized
I doubt I'll ever be able to offer help, but I expect it will be a useful source when I need help.

6. Glad to have help available in this group
I can't give much advice, but there are times when I need help. I'm from the old PC days, starting from the late 70s. While I keep my 'puters up to date, I can't seem to keep up to date myself. Thanks for being here.

but sometimes I know the answers to weird things that happen. This looks like a fun place, so I'll probably be hanging here if you'll have me.

16. You have to upload your pictures to an internet site.
If you don't have your own website, you can use a free site such as www.photobucket.com. When you upload the photo, photobucket gives you a URL which you then copy and paste into your post. So whenever your post is loaded, the photo is retrieved from the photobucket server rather than taking up space on DU's server. (I'm no expert but that's how I understand it.)

Hope this helps!

18. I have a mac powerbook w/ a superdrive. It now doesn't seem to want
to play DVD's. Is there any thing I can do. I've used a discwasher DVD cleaner disk on it a number of times in the last couple of days and it hasn't made a difference. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

19. Hope this is a simple question, it looks simple....
How do I make a url look like "english" ? I see it all the time in blogs and posts here, and would love to be able to do that too.

Please type slowly, I'm very computer challenged. Thanks!

22. Its easy on DU
When you make a post in DU you can reference the instructions by clicking on the link HTML lookup table next to Message Options. Its the first one listed: HREF link with text display. Follow the instructions below for a private tutorial, just substitute brackets for < or > .

Basically you just type this:

<link:

Then you copy the url of the web page and paste it after the colon:

<link:http://www.suntimes.com/output/business/cst-fin-mac24.html

Then you delete the "http://" at the beginning of what you pasted:

<link:www.suntimes.com/output/business/cst-fin-mac24.html

Then you type the "pipe" symbol "|" (on the keyboard its probably shown as two tiny vertical lines somewhere around your right pinky). Then type the text you want to appear followed by a closed bracket:

<link:www.suntimes.com/output/business/cst-fin-mac24.html | Skinner gets shareholders vote of confidence>

It should come out like this:

Skinner gets shareholders vote of confidence
