SATA drive not able to load XP
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 12:43 AM by SHRED
I have an Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard with an IDE hard drive and Win 2000.

I added a new Seagate SATA.
Used Disk Manager in Administrative Tools to format.
It is now H drive (NTFS).
OK now I try and load XP to it and during the install, on the blue screen, it shows my existing "C" drive but the H drive is G and it will not let me install on it. It shows it there as far as size goes.

In BIOS the only SATA settings are RAID and boot. I have tried these setting both enabled and disabled to no avail.
In fact I didn't notice the drive even listed at all in BIOS under the "boot sequence" option.

I can move files on and off this drive while operating in Win2000 but I can't install XP on it.

Any ideas?

2. I booted from CD and also
CORRECTION: The new drive does not show under install screen. I royally messed up and partitioned a USB storage drive my wife was using for school. I will be in the dog house soon.

3. You need to load a 3rd party driver during install...
you'll need the disk labeled 'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATA Raid Driver Installation Disk' that shipped with your MoBo.

Press F6 for third party SCSI or driver installation at the beginning of text mode installation. Press 's' when setup asks if you want to specify an additional device, and insert the diskette labeled 'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATA Raid Driver Installation Disk' . Press 'Enter' and select 'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller'

Press 'Enter' to continue on with text mode setup.

5. If you aren't using a SATA RAID array (2 or more disks) used to mirror
or "share" data for faster access to HDD data, you can "trick" windows by disconnecting the other HDDs during your Windows install and then connecting them again after your install.

7. If any of the above doesn't work...
go into bios and make sure your drives are set to SATA or Compatable.
