Thanks to this group, my kitty is doing better....
I just added Wellness moist food to my Tuffie's diet. She has malignant mammary cancer at 11 yrs of age. She is a Maine Coon (when I did not know what they were) who was living on the streets at Christmas as a 6 month old kitten.
Judging by my pain measure when she jumps on me when I am sleeping on the couch, I can say she has probably gained weight. She is the most loving mammal (counting the dogs), I have ever had.
She is playing on her own, tossing about things she finds...even at 11 yrs old. I take these as a good sign.
The other thing I notice is that she keeps this food down where the other stuff, she threw up shortly after ingesting.
I want to thank this group for suggesting things to help my best furry friend I have ever had.

1. Good vibes and head butts to you and yours!
Glad to hear your cat is doing better. I think that the diet we feed our especially elderly animals is very important. I've noticed a real difference in my 14 year old Lily since I took her off fatten light Science Diet. Lorien recommends Organix pet food and my cats really like it.

2. I'm so glad that she's doing better!
I feed my kitties the Wellness canned foods (they get about six different brands of holistic foods-I'm just trying to ensure that the young ones don't develop allergies). 16 year old Miro loves it, and he has definitely become more playful and active since I got him off the commercial stuff. He also use to throw up almost daily, and now he doesn't at all. One Wellness distributor swore to me that a client's cat got over a persistent form of cancer by switching to Wellness (they maintained that the growth hormones in other brands were feeding the cancer).I don't know how much truth there is to that, but I'm sure it made a positive difference!

Oberon would eat nothing but Organix and Artemis kibble if I would let him. The holistic pet food store owners I know say that Organix is their highest quality dry food, but they really like the Wellness brand, too. Wellness also makes cat vitamin supplements. Oberon recently got a very nasty gash on his leg that is mending at an incredible speed, and I'd like to the the holistic food and supplements are contributing to that!

I hope Tuffie gives you many, many more years of headbutts and purrs!

:hi:

My four cats and my GSD all eat only Wellness. I use dry and canned. They are all thriving. It is excellent food.
I will supplement with a can of Merrick Holistic Food. The Thanksgiving Day Dinner Flavor is the one I choose. They make cat and dog food. The ingredients are very fine, and when I open it, it looks and smells like I could eat it myself.

They are just coming out with dry food.

4. Hey, "Thanksgiving Day dinner" is what my guys had
last night! They also love "Cowboy cookout" and "Grammy's pot pie". I'll keep an eye out for the dry kibble, too.

6. Actually, it is
like all holistic brands, it's made from USDA human grade ingredients, so if BushCo suddenly becomes a complete military dictatorship and starts enforcing state curfews you'll always have some Merricks around in a pinch! ;-) I won't tell you what's in all those "premium brands" like Iams, Eukanuba, Science diet...not to mention Friskies and Fancy Feast- It's too close to dinner time!

7. Yeah...
I was reading something in an Utne Reader recently that mentioned that the reason pet food stinks so bad is because of the completely nasty stuff they put in it-- ground up animal parts, by products, all kinds of disgusting things.

We need to wean Molly and Fargo off the stuff we're giving them now. reprehensor is so used to just buying cheap grocery store brands. These are the first two pets he's had that he didn't share with his parents. It'll take me a little effort.

8. If you go to the site that BrklynLiberal posted
you can do a retailer search using your zip code. Most natural pet food retailers will give you samples to try with your pets before you buy. Usually the pets KNOW that the new stuff is much better, so there's not much of an argument about it. ;-)
