Ode to the Older Cat

You don't run so fast or play as much
as you did years back
but you know me well
and I've cried tears into your warm fur
and you watched over me when I was sick.

You love my mother because she sounds like me
and you know she's your grandmother
You love my trusted friends but no one else
You are exclusive and shy around strangers.

We've been through so much together
when you were sick I cried and prayed for you to get well
you did, a little survivor.
And when I see your sweet green eyes
Wanting to come up on the bed
and monopolize the pillows
and lie on my book
all I can do is lift up your fat butt
and bring you to me
you are everything to me
and I love you so.

an older kitty can be the most loving companion. Young cats are fun, but the old kitty is reliable.
