14. I wish it didn't irk me so much.

But it annoys me to no end that there are people who are perfectly content to just throw away our humanity, our drive, our accomplishments, by attributing everything to the motion of a rock. A big fucking rock.

I think a lot of it comes from the frustration of ignorance. They don't understand science or rational thinking, and so they fear it and have to attack it. Cut from the same cloth as right-wing fundies. They belittle scientists while decrying those who supposedly belittle them. And there's always a few who have to chime in with the "what does it hurt" or "you should open your mind" chorus.

It hurts us as a species and hurts us as a society, that's what it hurts. It retards our progress and encourages an overall anti-science, anti-intellectual atmosphere that lets other things like religious fundamentalism flourish.

I'll get off my soapbox now.
