HONOLULU — The flags aboard the Battleship Missouri are flying at half-staff in honor of President Harry S. Truman’s only daughter, Margaret Truman, who has died.

Truman, known as Margaret Truman Daniel in private life, was present at the champagne launching ceremony for the ship in the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Jan. 29, 1944. Harry Truman, a senator at the time, spoke at the ceremony.

Truman died at a Chicago assisted living facility following a brief illness. She was 83. She was a concert singer, actress, radio and TV personality and mystery writer.
