PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — A brief phone call from a missing Iraq war veteran from southwest Florida is giving his family new hope that he is still alive.

Former Marine Eric Hall has been missing since Feb. 3. Authorities say he called a longtime friend in Indiana on Wednesday and they are trying to determine where the call came from.

The call lasted less than a minute and Hall apparently sounded confused. His mother pleaded Thursday for her son to call home.

Hall suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. The 24-year-old was wounded in a June 2005 explosion and was later granted medical retirement from the Marines.

He moved to Charlotte County on Florida’s west coast in January.
