About 160 soldiers from the Alabama National Guard’s C Company, 1st Battalion, 167th Infantry Regiment, are expected to return home Thursday after serving in Iraq.

The soldiers were in Iraq for more than nine months and were demobilizing at Camp Shelby, Miss., before returning to Alabama.

During their deployment, the soldiers performed 230 combat missions, traveling more than 1 million miles while escorting supply convoys across Iraq. The soldiers encountered nearly 50 improvised explosive devices and engaged in 40 firefights while on escort duty.
