WYOMING, Mich. — A 29-year-old soldier from a Grand Rapids suburb has died after collapsing during a road march in southern Arizona.

The Army identifies her as Pfc. Moneeka Mayo of Wyoming, Mich.

The Grand Rapids Press reported Tuesday that she had two children and two stepchildren with her husband, Delano VanderGeld.

The soldier was stationed at Fort Huachuca in Arizona and assigned to Company A, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Training Battalion.

The Army says she collapsed Sunday morning and died a short time later at a hospital in Sierra Vista, about 170 miles southeast of Phoenix. The cause of death has not been released.
