NATO: Soldier Killed in Southern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan — A NATO soldier was killed in a clash with insurgents in southern Afghanistan, the military alliance said Sunday.

The soldier was on a patrol when he was killed Saturday, NATO said in a statement.

It did not release the soldier’s nationality or the exact location of the clash.

Southern Afghanistan is the center of the Taliban-led insurgency, and the world’s largest drug producing area.

The Taliban have made a comeback after their initial defeat during the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.

Violence in the war-torn country has reached a record level.
