Of course, it's asking too much that a sock be stuffed into the mouth of those who keep repeating "he voted for it before he voted against it" like a pull-string doll... but I'm so glad that Thomas Schaller is spelling it out here (emphasis mine):
Mr. Bush tormented Sen. John Kerry in 2004 for "voting for before voting against" funding the war. But Mr. Kerry voted for a version of the $87 billion appropriation bill that also raised revenues to pay for it. Instead, we pile the war's costs atop our mountainous national debt, leaving future generations to pay for it later - plus interest.Important distinction. One that I picked up on two weeks before the election.
