Hi everyone, I'm new here! |
|
Hi everybody! I've been lurking in the forum for months, and I do mean months now and just got my star.
Like all of you, I simply love John Kerry. I was never really involved in politics, I thought all our leaders made promises, got into office and basically forgot all about us and went on their own program. Then along came John Kerry. I can honestly say that this man restored my faith, and that was a tall order. He really, honestly cared about all of us, and made it his business to know the struggles we go through day to day, and more importantly, how to fix this country so that it worked for all of us. As the campaign went on, and I saw more and more of him, I started to realize how hot he is on top of all that! I cried the day he conceded, not only for him but for our country and the terrible road we are on.
A little about me: I'm a 41 year old married female, I live in NYC, and have been a life long democrat. I feel like I know many of you already, since I've been visiting here for so long and one thing I've come to know is that you guys always make me smile. I don't post that much in the other forums, I'm a bit afraid of being eaten alive in them, so I rarely jump in. But this place is so friendly, there's none of that pettiness and flaming that goes on over in GD.
It's so good to be able to post here!

It certainly sounds like you'll fit right in here! And we can never have enough devoted Kerrycrats!!
I think it's wonderful that you are declaring your support for JK now, especially when it appears to be the fashion at DU and Kos to belittle him. And he needs every one of us.
Plus, it's nice to hear you appreciate the  finer points of our candidate. (Just watch out for WEL - she can be fierce! :D)

(fast writing early this morning) that I really love what you said here: I thought all our leaders made promises, got into office and basically forgot all about us and went on their own program. Then along came John Kerry. I can honestly say that this man restored my faith, and that was a tall order.
I feel just the same way. While Kerry has always had my complete faith (a luxury only us Massachusetts residents have been granted, really), I could say exactly the same thing about almost every other candidate for higher office.
I am smitten with his utter lack of cynicism.

12. I always felt that way |
|
I have been a resident of NY or PA my whole life and since I was a child at the time of Vietnam and a partying young adult during the time of the Iran Contra scandal, I wasn't aware of JK's involvement in either. It wasn't until his candidacy that I really found out how much he did and how he fights for what is right.

It was a little late for me, I didn't really follow the primaries all that much (I'm not proud of that, being the shrub hater that I am), but as soon as I heard Kerry start to speak out, I was pretty much hooked.

many supported someone else in the primary or were pretty neutral or not interested. but they became fans when they really got a look at who our party candidate was. the convention and especially the debates were very impressive.

Your second paragraph sounds like many of us. I think John Kerry is the most interesting, unique politician of our generation. Even months later, seeing him speak on C-SPAN in addition to enjoying hearing his eloquent speeches, there's a residual regret that this man, so qualified to be President, is not.

He is surely the most qualified man. It really amazes me how people can say that he had no plan. Did they not listen to a word the man said? You know, last week I was listening to the Majority Report on Air America, and they had a guest on from the DKos. They were talking about the Gannon/Guckert scandal. The guest was commenting on what if this had happened in any other administration, like President Clinton, President Kerry...When he said President Kerry, my heart lurched in my chest. It was the most beautiful 2 words I had ever heard in my life. I think what got me so much about it was that I had never heard anyone besides myself say it. I wish I had been able to tape record it to play over and over to myself!

It is refreshing and deeply gratifying to see so many new folks checking in. (Does my heart good, especially after yesterday and the Dems bashing Dems fre-for-all at DKos.)
Good to hear from you. Anything you want to know, ask and somebody will fill ya in!

we Kerrycrats are trying to treat others at DU fairly and decently, but some of the Clark/Dean/whoever people don't seem to care if they are insulting. Granted not all, but some. Could it be JK who inspires us to follow our "better angels"? I like to think it's true.

Reading what you just wrote. It immediately brought to mind the tactics Repugs have been using vs. Dems. Doesn't it? Pretty creepy. Either GD is overpopulated with trolls or the left is coopting the worst ideas of the right in order to fight other dems. Good god, I need to go wash out my brain now.

(I thought about spelling "Kombat Korps" like that, but decided it would be beyond lame.)
So anyways, it's great to have you in here. Stay a while; we're a pleasant little oasis from the madhouse out there.

I'm going to take my meds now and sit in the corner. Sigh! Poor ForeverDem. She doesn't know what she's getting herself into.

39. When my brother retired from the Reserves |
|
after 26 years I managed to find him a perfect card. (This was not easy to do.) It had "Congratulations on your Retirement" with a ship and stuff on the front and 'Fair Winds and Folllowing Seas' on the inside and everything. I was so puffed up with pride that I managed to find a Retirement Card for this. (Honestly, how many have you seen at the card store?)
Anyway, we get to the Ceremony at the USS Salem, he opens that card, asks me where the hell I found it and then points out that the insignia on the card was all wrong and that this card was for someone with a higher rank than his.
You can't win sometimes. I tried telling him to take it symbolically, but geez, some people are hard to please.
WEL is either a Captain or a High Poobar or First Among Equals. Since I am a little afraid of Mrs. K., she gets to choose.

I come here when I can't take the negativity and the bashing out there. I'm kind of new to the Kerry group, too, and new to politics as well. I'm a 49 y/o married female, in western NY, and a lifelong dem. In the short time I've been interested in politics, I've gotten quite an education - I started by studying up on the current regime, and once you start that, there's no going back. You can't ignore it once you know what's really going on.
Anyway, the more I learned about John Kerry, and the more I watched, the more I liked him. I just finished two bio's on him, and am impressed even more. He really DOES care. His integrity and intelligence, and his CARING about injustice is heartwarming to see in a politician. I don't understand the attacks on him, but I think it's a vocal minority making them. I feel better knowing that he knows exactly what's going on, and that he's on the case!

You make me feel so hopeful for the future. It's so nice to see so many people who had a sort of political awakening last year and have kept the faith. (Now I'm all verklempt. It's okay, I have tissues.)
BTW, it's going to snow again here this weekend and I read somewhere that Sen. Kerry is in Florida this weekend at some 'no press' gathering. Sigh! I think he went to Spring Training in City of Palms to watch the Red Sox. Anybody agree with me? (Well, that's what I would do.)
Btw, redux: Tomorrow the Dems hold a hearing on the primaries and whether or not to keep Iowa and NH as firsts. Might be interesting. On C-Span in the morning. This is pertinent if you are stuck in then house cuz it's snowing outside and you can't go out. And you are thinking about people at Spring Training. Sigh!
