I am sorry guys, to those I offend. I CAN"t support Dean on this. |
|
I just can't. I have been savagely attacked by his advocates in this thread, but I just can't get on board with this. And unlike Den's last gaffe about "using Shiavo" this cannot be "explained away as a mistake!" I didn't realize that there was almost no difference between Dean and the other DNC candidates . Sigh. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1415498&mesg_id=1415498&page=

Reproductive responsibility. It is about a woman making her own medical decisions and the right to privacy when she does it.
I think we've made a mistake in only talking about abortion in terms of choice, whenever a woman wants to make it. They're passing laws that are putting women's health and lives at risk. Nobody is talking about that. I think he's right to make it a medical care issue.
Not to mention where we're going with EC, pharmacists, etc. When Kerry talked about Catholicism and abortion, I thought he should have brought up the Catholic view on contraception. Really drive it home. Maybe the consultants thought people would think he was being an extremist because that would never happen. Well, it is. How much of your body do you want Fritz and Delay to control? I think it's a way to wake up younger women who take control over reproduction for granted.

2. I don't see how you can offend by simply disagreeing |
|
That's the difference that several on the main board can't understand. You're not being unfair. You're saying what you believe. Even if it were Kerry you were saying this about, I wouldn't be offended.

3. I can't respond at length until later |

but boy, oh boy do I ever agree with you on Lakoff. Changing a few words here and there is not going to move the ball along all that much and runs the risk of sounding fake and over-planned. I liked some of the Elephant book, but I disagreed with 'just say it this way and all the differences will be paved over' thing.
More later tonight.

4. I really hope everyone is getting in touch with the DNC on this. |

Just because the party has allegedly reached some kind of agreement about softening the rhetoric--ie; making concessions to anti-choice misogynists-- doesn't mean we can't MAKE them turn it around. I devote thirty minutes a day to at least e-mailing EVERYONE I can think of and explaining that protecting choice is a NON-NEGOTIABLE obligation Democrats MUST respect.
