He did put out the idea of not accepting the nomination until Bush did, to keep it fair. I know when he came out with it, I thought that it made a lot of sense. But I think those in the party, the one's that think they know so much, should of listened to him. He could of kept on spending his campaign money and licked thos swifties right in the ass. I think if Kerry runs again he is going to go with his basic instinct and not those that think they know it all.

in another way. This is clearly a ridiculous, unthought out consequense of the campaign finance law, that was magnified by McAuliffe taking such an early date. (In fairness, he couldn't have known the Democrata would be competitive in fund raising.)
The sadness would be that at the moment that Kerry made his speech in his hometown, he would have had to say he would accept the nomination on (date) and been ridiculed in the press and likely sued by the Republicans - who would claim that whatever he did at the convention was a defacto accepting the nomination.
