Since spring has sprung
I took some pictures of our tulips and wildflowers that are blooming now. Enjoy.

Pics were resized and compressed

1. Lovely, thank you! I've been doing the gardening
thing as well. Tis the season (here)! Might I ask why your soil is so sandy, Maestro? Do you live near a beach? I live in Houston and have mud.

3. Argh! My soil.
Don't get me started... I live just south of Dallas, about 35 miles in the country. Just inches below is caliche soil, dirt mixed with limestone. So I trucked in several truckloads twice of what I thought was good soil. Both times I was ripped off. I paid top dollar for good , black, nutrient rich soil. What I got in both cases was something just a little bit better quality than construction sand. I swear.

Last year I added on to the patio, and the guy helping me said he knew of a place to get good soil after I explained my situation. I went with him and checked out the soil. Ordered it and voilá. I now have a layer of good soil but after tilling it, all the sandy crap mixes in. So right now, I guess it is a good sandy loam (sp?) type mixture. It seems to be good for wildflowers, but not vegetable gardens. When everything starts blooming I'll see if I can get a big picture of the whole garden.

6. Very nice
Glad to see some new flower pictures on DU. Where we are it's mostly just the buttercups blooming.

Here are some pics I posted in the Lounge last year. I'd deleted them from Photobucket, but thought I would scan them again and post in your thread.

7. Thanks, I needed that.
After weeks of warm temperatures (in the 40s) and thaw here, we got 8 inches of snow yesterday and more projected, so I guess we won't be seeing many flowers for a while.

last fall.

10. Is that ice in the lower right corner?
If so, it sure is the last diehard.

11. Yes, that's what it is...

The first really measurable snowfall in October. These little violas are tough -- sometimes they'll still be out there blooming into November when it doesn't even get above freezing during the day. This picture was taken October 23rd.
