Now that I have my camera, I need lenses. |
|
For close-up B&W, Color sports, lanscapes/nature/ocean. I do need a wide angle, but a telephoto or zoom for sports (high school football), shots?
So you figure: Macro or Macro zoom? Wide angle. Telephoto, Zoom or Telephoto zoom?
I'm shooting with a Canon 20D

1. Depends on how much you want to spend :) |

I'm not THAT familiar with Canon lenses, but the Sigma lenses are good for the most part, reasonably priced and I know them because they are also available in Nikon mounts.
They make an 80-400 with optical stabilization that would kick major booty for sports photography. It's around $1,000 though.
The Sigma 70-300 APO Super Macro II (I think that's the right name) is only about $180 and is a VERY good lens for the money. This has pretty good macro capabilities and good zoom. It's a great addition to the lens you got with the camera.
Both of these are available in a Canon mount.

2. $1,000.00 is a little high for my budget. |
|
Can you think of another zoom/telephoto that is not so expensive? Please excuse my ignorance but I'm just getting started here.

3. What makes that Sigma so expensive is the optical stabilization |
|
the other Sigma I mentioned for around $200 or so is a VERY nice lens for the money. It's fairly sharp through the entire zoom range and has good contrast and color. Not the fastest lens on the planet, but it's prettty sweet :).
