Iran Gets First North Korean-Made Missiles
Iran Gets First North Korean-Made Missiles
By ARON HELLER, Associated Press Writer

JERUSALEM - Iran has received its first batch of North Korean-made surface-to-surface missiles that put European countries within firing range, Israel's military intelligence chief said in an interview published Thursday.

The BM-25 missiles have a range of 1,550 miles and are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, the Haaretz daily reported.

The report came as U.N. members consider slapping sanctions on Iran for refusing to halt its uranium enrichment. The United States, Israel and other Western countries say Iran is trying to get nuclear arms, but the Islamic regime says its atomic program is for civilian purposes only.

The U.N. Security Council has given Iran until Friday to stop enriching uranium, a necessary step for developing nuclear weapons. Should Iran refuse to comply, which it has indicated it will do, the Security Council is likely to consider taking punitive measures.

1. I am betting Iran already has nuclear weapons.
I am betting that the North Koreans are so desperate for foreign trade credit that they would happily sell one with the missiles for a price.

3. Hmmmm.....
This information came from an Israeli military intelligence chief, for what that's worth. I will reserve the right to consider this information with skepticism.

4. I second that.
I don't exactly trust Israeli officials to be completely sure they've got all the facts right before they release a story on Iran.

5. The coincidence of this disclosure is staggering
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 10:02 AM by leveymg
Just before the Friday deadline. Coincidence. Of Course.

But, the Iranians have their own Intermediayae range missile design, the Shahab IV, which they stopped developing a few years ago to alleviate just these conscerns by the Europeans. Why buy a N. Korean missile, when they can build their own?

Consider the source. Israeli sources have also been saying that Iran bought a bunch of ex-Soviet warheads in the 1990s. The implication here is obvious.

But, why would Iran want to nuke Paris? This is very dubious.

7. Just a question, only slightly off-topic...
There are scores of nations with nuclear enrichment facilities in operation or development. Why is it that Iran is not allowed to have such a facility?

9. Right. I know that is the Dictator's reasons, but what are the
official reasons - the ones being used by the UN? Iran is a signatory of the NPT and, according to last reports, is in compliance with that treaty. So, again, why is Iran not allowed to proceed as many, many other nations have?

12. We've made a lot of noise, and the UN is requesting that they not enrich
uranium in an effort to assuage our fears. :eyes:

Given the fact that they're essentially a theocracy they're also not seen as stable, versus, say, Pakistan who has a military junta that overthrew the elected government there long ago.

Iran respectfully rejected their request not to enrich, and the offer from Russia to do the enrichment for them, hence the impasse. The UN hasn't smacked them yet, though. They are just clearing their throats at having been brushed off thusly.

11. Ask yourself why didn't the U.S. navy or AF interdict these missiles?
-Because it allows for a 'plausible' threat....!
-More fun and games brought to you by BUSHco

13. Didn't China and Russia say they'll veto sanctions?
I would imagine John Bolten's office is being prepped for rubber walls.
