Who knew Steven Seagal movies were so politically conscious? |
|
Yesterday I watched one called Above the Law, and it was about CIA black ops and drug running. Today there was one dealing with environmental degradation. Each one featured a monologue at the end of a movie excoriating the guilty parties and raising a call to action.
Granted these are his older films, and I have seen them before, but in these times it was a quite a pleasant surprise to see such a pop culture movie carry these kinds of messages.
Oh yeah, Steven Seagal kicks ass!

15. His later ones are just bad period.. |
|
Seagal's earlier films weren't masterpieces, but they were decent action flicks. The later ones though are a waste of celluloid. There's nothing worse than watching a middle-aged man with a gut trying to be a martial arts badass.
The plots also sorely lack.
Take the ending of "The Patriot" for example (not the Gibson film):
Spoilers ahead:
Seagal defeats a biological agent by having a helicopter drop flower petals on the afflicted town. I shit you not.

Out for Justice Above the Law Fire Down Below Today You Die Marked for Death Hard to Kill On Deadly Ground
I like to refer to all Seagal movies with a generic title.
All the bad guys are... "Destined for Pain"
