CNN just aired the United Church of Christ ad! |
|
The one with the "ejector seats". I was surprised, I had thought that they had refused....

Imagine a religious ad encouraging tolerance and acceptance.
As an aside, I worked for the UCC (health care facility) years ago .... they not only "talk the talk" but "walk the walk". They have always been very progressive.

11. My great-grandmother was a lifelong Congregationalist and I |
|
found out recently that they merged into the UCC. So I am pleased that she was a dedicated member of a LIBERAL church!
She lived her whole life in a tiny Nebraska farm town, too. Go figure. Not a trace of fundamentalism in her............

14. They are an evangelical church |

Which many don't realize.
A "left wing" evangelical church, if you will.

15. Evangelical just means they evangelize actively, which means |
|
spreading the gospel. Some Christian groups are NOT evangelical, ie the Amish, who don't actively promote their way to others. Evangelicalism is not to be equated with FUNDAMENTALISM, which is that ugly streak of biblical literalism and fire-and-brimstone nonsense we all love to hate (dominionism is the extremest form of it).

All of those descriptors are often taken to mean RIGHT-wing fundamentalist, and are used interchangeably, despite having specific meanings unrelated to the matter at hand ...

10. It's not that it is banned by Logo.... |

But rather it is the parent company of the parent company that owns Logo that has banned the ad from all of it's media outlets.

Fox news, and msnbc ran news stories on the first sets of commercials last year, and branded them as "controversial". This was right on the heels of Pat Robertsons assassination comment no less (which they heartily endorsed). They didn't even catch the stupidity of the comparison. Irony can be so ironic sometimes. After they bashed the UCC system on the two networks, UCC web site hits went up, as did people coming in to inquire about membership. It just proves that all advertising is good advertising.
