Anyone notice that when a black stripper alleges rape... |
|
All of a sudden the white defendants' rights become THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE WORLD.
Whereas when the defendant is black, all of a sudden the most important thing in the world is "victims' rights".
Funny where the "the most important thing in the world" seems to land SO consistently.

Just wondering.

It was stirring the pot, it was racist, and what was the point, really?

10. Actually it wasn't racist at all. As for the point, if you didn't get it |
|
on your own, explaining it would be an exercise in futility.

Even less so do I wonder if it was, say the (largely black) basketball team and a white stripper.

11. Regarding your scenario |
|
there was a famous case here in Colorado where anonymous member(s) of the largely black football team were accused of sexual assault. Even though there were multiple (white) accusers, none of the cases ever made it to trial for lack of evidence. The community was torn apart in this case, some presumed guilt, and many defended the players.
Also, the Kobe Bryant deal played out in the media here, and many if not most decided early that the alleged victim was unstable, promiscuous, and therefore lying.
Judging by these two cases, there seems to be a bias toward the defendant. While I think your hypothesis has some validity, it is not absolute.

16. But in both those cases |
|
the men were famous or sort of...and that made the different. I do believe that if a black soccer team raped a white stripper the media fury would unleash on them. It would be like the blonde missing women.

23. Again, if you're talking about Duke... |
|
you wouldn't see that behavior out of Coach K's kids, he is probably the MOST honorable man in college athletics. He doesn't even recruit kids unless they are young men of character and principles. If you knew anything about college basketball and Duke you would know that. And in this state - NC - the largely black college basketball team would easily get the benefit of the doubt. Again, if you knew anything about college basketball in NC, you would know that it is practically a religion in this state; we take our college basketball seriously.

I seriously think if the situation was reversed, there would be more sympathy for the victim right now.

12. The blonde lady with the curious voice who is now on MSNBC |
|
She was canned from Faux for being too old and too fat, but she had a huge fan base. They snatched her up and have her doing gossipy crime stories immediately following Olbermann (the Aruba thing, this case, etc.). Her fans followed her, and her ratings are pretty good. She has a knack for getting the interview--she apparently works like hell, flattering and cajoling, and persuades people to talk to her. I think she probably warns them of a few tough questions, and gives them time to state their case. In any event, she manages to get the odd surprising interview!

Black defendant, white accuser. Same devotion to defendants' rights.
It's not like I just decided last week "hey, I think I'll always side with defendants' right to a fair trial in a criminal case before being pronounced guilty."
It's what I believe, and what's more, it's a core Democratic value.

Charges were dropped in lieu of counseling and community service. It has been put on hold pending the outcome of this case.
The kid in question is a local and it is getting a lot of coverage here. Local media is really digging into his background.

I don't care about the color of the accused or the victims, as long as people found guilty of rape do a lot of hard time. Black, white or other, sexual predators skate in this country, compared to perpetrators of other violent crimes. And don't think that the growing "pornographication" of society is going to let violent sex crime figures go down, unless local and state police departments engage in creative crime statistics to a degree even greater than they're doing now....

21. No, but I have noticed that sometimes |
|
some people will use anything to attack others who don't automatically and slavishly agree with them. I prefer less sanctimony and more objectivity, myself.
And if you're talking about the Duke case (again), wasn't that young woman an exotic dancer, not a stripper? That seemed to be a rather nasty point of contention with some.
