OSHA investigates death at Columbia construction site

COLUMBIA -- Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), have started their investigation into the death of a bricklayer at a Columbia construction site.

Authorities say 53 year old Alan Hildebrand of Ashland, Ohio died after a hydraulic scaffolding system collapsed on Monday afternoon.

Hildebrand was working on the new Columbia Elementary School in the Arbor Pointe Subdivision of North Columbia.

OSHA Spokeswoman Barb Theriot told KRCG investigators have taken photographs and measurements at the scene while interviewing several witnesses.

Theriot says OSHA investigators have six months to give companies any citations for alleged violations that could have caused a fatality.

Construction on the new school resumes Thursday, weather permitting.
