4. Oil is just the 'icing'... |
|
...on the cake. I just finished reading war journalist/commentator Gwynne Dyer's book 'Future: Tense' where he postulates that Iraq is all about the neo-con desire to project US 'power' and break free of the UN and multilateral international law. He points out how successful the UN has been at avoiding a really bad international conflagration over its 60 year history. The neo-cons needed a 'useful idiot' to volunteer to help and they got two. The first is Bush for, unlike his father, he holds the UN in very low esteem, and the second was Saddam for basically volunteering his country to be the example they wanted. The fact Iraq has so much oil made it an easy sell to Cheney & Co. It's all about projecting power. Dyer notes that there was no shortage of allies when Iraq invaded Kuwait and Bush Sr. followed international law to a 'T'...hence, no drive on to Baghdad. He knew it would be overstepping the UN mandate. But Bush the Lesser had no such qualms, the neo-cons are all Likudniks anyway (so they see invading Iraq as serving hard right Israeli interests as well) and friendless Saddam's defiance served only to nominate himself as their 'example'. No need for conspiracy theories...the facts say it all.

6. Ironic, Isn't It? McCain and the GOP Get Caught |

admitting this war was always about oil. It will be an eye-opener for military men and women to hear this sack of you know what justify such a premise, well after the lies they used to justify their being there.

Oil prices have gone up in part because of increased demand.
The US Military is the world's largest consumer of oil.
