I think she's 100% right, and it's going to be up to Obama and the superdelegates to end it.

Her strong showing in Kentucky and 42% of my fellow Oregonians think she is relevant. As a voice in the Democratic party she is relevant. Finally, her hardcore supporters are extremely relevant.
Again, consider the power we will have in November if we are united. We will win divided this year, but just imagine if we weren't.

That being said, I do think that Obama will be the candidate, and at the same time he definitely needs to avoid making motions toward declaring her and her supporters irrelevant. I do not believe he has seriously done this yet, but the chance is always there.

"but the chance is always there"
:wtf:
there's about as much chance of that as there is of Dubya never golfing again.
Why in heaven n hell's name would Obama start "declaring her and her supporters irrelevant"? He's a lot of things but I can assure you one them is not a stupid politician.
Just like us Obama supporters have to admit our candidate is neck and neck in the popular vote with Hillary (pssst even though she won't win the delegates) and not gloat like "compassionate" conservatives. It's not in most of our natures at any rate. If that kind of activity happens in here, there's a high probability its some pimply faced FAUX News intern with his own nasty little wingnut news blog trying to f.ck with a thread.
If it had gone the other way, the job of reconciliation advances would have had to come from the Clintonians. Soon it will be up to the Obamanites to fulfill that responsibility. But now is too early for that. Soon.

40. I agree with a caveat |
|
I think it's extremely important to be united. Historically the divided party loses. With the possible manipulation of voting machines, a divided party is death. I have been saying for months that Hillary is taking the HHH role from the 72 convention. If she continues to fight for the nomination all she does is split the party. Hunter Thompson states it beautifully when describing a significant failure of McGovern and his campaign. McGovern did blow it himself, there is no question of that, but he also was blindsided By the "Humphrey/Meany Axis" and I quote "So the minor flaws didn't matter a hell of a lot. It was the Big One, the Humphrey Sidewinder- that blew the spine out of McGovern's campaign strategy. The one thing that never occurred to Hart or Frank Mankiewicz (his campaign mgr.s) or to me either, for that matter, despite my rancid contempt for the Humphrey / Meany Axis and everything it stood for - was the ominous possibility that those evil bastards would refuse to close ranks behind McGovern once he had the nomination. It was almost inconceivable that they would be so bitter in defeat that they would tacitly deliver their own supporters to a conservative Republican, instead of at least trying to rally them around the candidate of their own party"

4. I can envision something screwy happening at the Democratic convention. |
|
Obama can go into that event with leads in the popular vote, delegate and superdelegate counts. Then, as if by magic, they hold some backroom dealing, decide to count Florida and Michigan and it works in Hillary's favor, giving her the nomination.
And if that happens, the Democratic party will conclude its convention as divided and in disarray as it could be.

|
Have you not seen where Hillary Clinton agreed to these rules (on video). Something should be done for Michigan and Florida especially Florida since they agreed to the move in order to secure a paper trail in the next election(the repugs in charge in Florida knowingly got them into this mess). In the beginning i was for just moving them back and re-doing it if they came up with the funds. But how do you rewrite rules now. Hillary has also taken advantage of the people of both states who didn't really know why any of this happened. All they know is what she has been telling them which is that Obama is trying not to let their votes count. Come on. So a re-vote now wouldn't work.

26. Every day they add up all the numbers over and over and that is what it shows. |
|
Like I have said before Hillary has won over the blue collar workers in great numbers because of what she is saying. That doesn't hold true for the educated voters. The superdelegates are educated voters. When people see Obama speak in person they see who he really is. For example last night in Oregon at 8pm Obama was winning Union county by 8%. They had one more box of ballots to run through the machines and my prediction was he would win by 10% because Obama just visited Pendleton (we handed out 780 tickets in Union county) two days earlier and most of the late voters I talked to on Tuesday had decided to vote for him. Many were Hillary supporters before. I was wrong. Obama won Union county by 12% last night! When he spends more time in WV and Kentucky etc.. people will see him for who he really is...our next president.

The only way she can get the nomination is to destroy the Dem party. Her willingness to fight is turning her followers into fighters. No matter what she and Barack say, the party will not necessarily be united after the convention. Just listen to what her followers are saying and how they say it. She is a destructive force in the Dem party.

the only way she can win is if she destroys the party and she and her followers are now a destructive force.
Her supporters on this board, and some who appeared on TV last night, are talking nonsense.
The only thing that makes sense is that her supporters don't think a black can win but they can't say it out loud. It would be nice if we could have a discussion about the real issues in the election but honest to god, her supports sound like Rove and the very worst of the GOP. Attack Obama, talk nonsense, repeat the lie over and over and louder and louder and soon people will believe you got more votes.
I used to wonder why people hated the Clintons so much. It made no sense to me and seemed way out of proportion to what they had ever done. Now that great mystery is solved. They will say anything. Even if it is total BS. The truth is unimportant which is why they thought it was okay to "get him" over a moral failing. Ethics be damned to those two.
Problem is, Bill was liked in part because he is a great politician. She is not. So those who think Bill can work his magic in 2008 don't realize he is not the candidate.

Look, I view this now as diplomacy. Hillary cannot win the nomination. However, Obama needs her voters to win the General Election. So there are many chess pieces to play here, and need to be played properly. I do think Rachel is right, in that Hillary is not going to concede. This is another "test" for Obama, and if he passes, well, then, he has shown beyond a reasonable doubt that he should be president of the United States.

What is it some of you guys aren't getting about this? SHE IS NOT GOING TO QUIT. She's like the f*cking Terminator, it doesn't matter what you do, how you beat and batter it, until you crush it completely it WILL... NOT... STOP.
I support Obama, but he made a huge mistake not contesting KY or WV. He's claiming he's basically got it locked up but let her sneak in the back door and not just beat him, but hand him his ass in 2 of 3 of the last contests. You can't call for anyone to leave when you're losing by wide margins. I know, I know, he's got the majority of the pledged delegates, she's can't catch him there, but here's the thing some aren't getting:
PERCEPTION IS REALITY
The talking heads can say what they want, if Obama is percieved as being weak and just barely making it across the finish line or leading early and just managing to run out the clock it's gonna be f*cking trouble. Super Delegates are going to get nervous. Moreover she's going to go to the rules and bylaws committe and/or the credentials committee of the convention and she's gonna get FL and MI put back in. She's gonna go to the convention and try to steal pledged delegates just like they've said she will. It isn't about debt and finding a graceful exit. SHE WANTS THIS F*CKING NOMINATION!!!
Lord... did everyone catch it that time? She's gonna do whatever it takes to be the nominee and if Obama stays asleep and the damn wheel, continuing to get smacked around like he did in KY and WV her not subtle message of "This country is still racist and given the choice between a black man and a white woman they'll choose white over black every time without even trying to investigate" will sink in. How do you folks not see this? The f*cking system is built so the party elders could shut down the party faithful if they think they've made the wrong choice! In a system like that OF COURSE she still has a chance! All the supers need is the political cover and if Obama keeps getting blown out like this they'll have it.
He has GOT to find a way to get rid of her, by hook or by crook, cuz if he doesn't I have the worst feeling that we may see that "Dream Ticket" yet and it won't be Obama/Clinton, but Clinton/Obama.
Wake the f*ck up Barack and get your head back in the damn game.

And there's no danger of her stealing the nom at this point. The SD's understand the game, and they understand what states have even a remote chance at being "in play" this fall. I would argue that there is a good chance that we'll pick up quite a few "red states"... maybe even Texas. But KY? Not a chance.

But I honestly don't know what he can do differently. If he goes after her the way I'm sure that he (and I'm damn sure Michelle) wants to then he's the big black bully beating up the pristine, pure white woman and there is no scenario where that will be tolerated in America.
His hands are tied and he's doing the best that he can do. So far it has been enough.

KY and WV simply are not full of folks who will vote for Obama in the primary. They like Clinton better, for whatever reason. Senator Clinton does great among the hillfolk. Obama's not asleep at the wheel, it's just these were not as well-suited for him as some other states.

I greatly admire the Clintons. Always have, always will. But the people, through their choice of voting the greater share of delegates to Obama, have spoken.
Obama is the nominee. Hillaery has run a great race, but there has to be a loser, and she lost. The sooner she and her supporters realize this and unite behind Obama, the better our chances are in the fall.
It's OVER.
