If you're out there time to speak up for gay rights |
|
Here's a little video i made to urge everyone who shares the opinion that everyone is entitled to equality including the gay community, to stand up and let your voices be heard on this issue.

2. I'm really starting to believe that it may happen in my lifetime-and that |

would have been unthinkable 20 years ago - nationwide same-sex marriage. You know they aren't going to come willingly-we are going to have to drag them kicking and screaming (and praying and rebuking) into the 21st century.

I was at the event in Seattle yesterday, and crowd estimates range from 3000 - 6000 but I think the crowd was bigger. What stunned me was that along with LGBT people of every stripe, there were straight allies seen far and wide. The feeling of solidarity was huge. And check it out: walking down the Pike Street overpass into the downtown core, marchers looked up to an apartment tower to see a woman standing on her balcony, must have been 10 floors up, completely naked, waving to the crowd, posing and waving her arms. Incredible! For a minute I thought I was in San Francisco. Yes, progress is coming to Seattle.
I am a new member of DU, and I want to say hello - and to throw this out to everyone - change is happening, and it's rapid - in just a matter of days we have seen the rebirth of the Civil Rights Movement. This is a civil rights issue, and while it is not the same issue of civil rights fought for and by African Americans (many have said that there is a clear distinction - I agree) - equality for LGBT people absolutely IS about civil rights - and this IS an evolution of the Civil Rights Movement, as I see it.
Thanks for the post, Hellataz, and yes, it is time to speak up.

But I'm not surprised that so many straight people are supporting this cause, I'm straight and I don't see this as a gay/straight issue, I see it as a civil rights issue that is preventing one community of americans from enjoying the same rights given to anther group. This is America and we are supposed to be united, all equal. Gay or straight it doesn't matter, ALL people will all eventually realize that denying the gay community the same rights as everyone else is just plain wrong.
Oh and Welcome to DU.

for the warm welcome to DU - and for putting your energy into this issue as GLBT allies and Democrats, Liberals and Progressives. :) It's change we can believe in...
