I can't believe someone hasn't posted this yet....

Full Hillary quote:
HILLARY CLINTON: Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, when he was able to get through Congress something that President Kennedy was hopeful to do, the president before had not even tried, but it took a president to get it done"

(Maybe for the New York Times et al, they could actually
read the candidate's actual quotes before screeding.)

4. I wonder if Hillary realizes her hypocrisy
Yes, in the case of black civil rights, it took a president to bring the federal congress around into doing the right thing by enacting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 - such a moral imperative could not be left entrusted to the states, for several states had already shown their true racist colors thus requiring federal intervention. The exact same thing can be said of GLBTs rights: Several states have already passed state constitutional bans against same-sex marriage; entrenching discrimination into their doctrine and relegating GLBT Americans to a second-class citizenship.

And yet Hillary, like Obama, insists that the matter of SSM should be left for the states to decide.

Yes, Hillary, it did indeed take a president to impose righteousness onto a nation divided in mandating equality and dignity to black Americans, and it will take a president to likewise do right by GLBT Americans.

Sadly, neither Hillary nor Obama have the leadership, guts or moral conviction of either a JFK or an LBJ.

14. What HRC is saying is that it takes a "President" to get something done ---
Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 02:18 AM by defendandprotect
however, that works both ways -- presidents will also block progress as we see with Bush.
Her statement is kind of a meaningless wash in that sense ---

Echoing the fight to end Segregation given strong and unbelievabe courage by ordinary African-Americans and by their leaders --- especially Martin Luther King . . .

JFK told the nation what had to be done with unbelievable candor for where we were at at that time!
JFK expressed the immorality of Segregation -- and made sure that America heard it - confident that it would mainly be received by willing hearts and minds. Only the few opposed these ideas.
But they were the VIOLENT few.

It is violence which keeps us all in chains.

Meanwhile, as for Bill Moyers, he's also a mixed bag.
Moyers and Salinger recognized that our president --- LBJ --- was "clinically psychotic" ---
and did nothing about it! Moyers was there during the VN years, of course!

Is Hillary talking about an ERA amendment --- will she put it thru?
