Wow - My little blue town in a red, red state is already working for Obama... |
|
Our primaries aren't until May and Indiana has never, ever made a difference in the Presidential primaries before, but we might make a difference now. Indianapolis and Bloomington are the only blue cities in this red, red state -- but if we can get the vote out for Obama we could send some delegates to Colorado for him.
Just in the Bloomington area, the following groups are already active:
Central Indiana for Obama Bloomington/Monroe County Indiana for Obama 2008 Indiana University Students for Barack Obama Obama Prayer Team
Next week at the local library is our first organizing meeting! It's time to get active distributing signs and literature and getting people registered.
I fear that Indiana Democrats will go with the establishment candidate (Clinton) - but I believe we can make a difference.
It would be awesome to actually have a Presidential candidate come to Indiana - we never, ever get any attention and so many people are apathetic about voting because they feel that their votes don't matter.

1. My daughter spent some time in Indianapolis at college... |
|
hated it! But the RA of the dorm had a sign on their floor about having good character. And he put Bush's picture with it. Boy was I happy to see that I wasn't the only person/parent offended by it. (Judging by the whispers in the hallway!) And by time we got her settled in, the picture was gone. At any rate, I know in Indiana the rural areas are predominantly red.
I remember hearing on one of the radio stations (or it may have been the local paper) about a teacher whose husband worked for the Kerry campaign, and as a result of his job SHE got fired! That was in Indiana somewhere. (Also, I seem to remember reading/hearing that her reviews as a teacher were fine and that maybe she had even won some teaching awards prior to being fired.)
So...that story in itself tells you how deeply entrenched the Republicans are in Indiana.
